lacrossed10: Welcome to MCO!

I removed the spoiler from my Cooper S and installed the Aero Spoiler from the Accessories catalog.

Here's what there is to know about installing a Cooper S spoiler on a Cooper (because I sold my spoiler to a Cooper owner).

1) The cooper S spoiler is held in place with double back tape and a threaded stud coming out of each end of the arch.
2) If you open your hatch and look at the inside edge where the spoiler would mount, there are two black plastic plugs (one on either side). If you remove these, this is where the bodyshop would drill your hatch to get the threaded studs located.

Talk to the parts department and see if you can order the spoiler prepainted. I was able to order the Aero Kit Spoiler prepainted white direct from MINI for $270.

In short, it is totally possible to do what you want.

Clover: looks like we were writing our first messages at the same time. Was that the aero kit spoiler? Or was it a non MINI spoiler?

Also, just a review of all the MINI Spoilers

Thank you so much for the pictures. I'm picking up my Mini next week and had been contemplating the spolier options. From looking at these pics - it was easy to decide. Thank you again!

Dave,
I find alot of dirt and sand collecting on the rear wiper with the S spoiler. Have
you noticed this less with the aero? Did you drive back to Denver with the S or the
Aero and any difference at speed?
Thanks,
Mike

I have a Cooper with a Cooper Spoiler (not the S)....I just thought she needed something a little extra on the back!
Great pics, Dave! You rock....as per usual!

There was not much change. The rear hatch is still filthy even on the way home from the car wash. It's just the nature of a hatchback. With the way the end is squared off the airflow is pretty dirty (meaning not smooth or laminar), so the votecies deposit a lot of debris back there.

...If I gotta use my aerospace engineering background for something, it might as well be MINI related.

Yeah. The one thing I notice on the Mini at speed is that the car doesn't get 'fatter.' I had an '87 Fiero GT with the standard ground effects and the rear spoiler and at around 100mph you could feel it sinking down and getting wider. The Mini is great at speed but I don't think the spoilers are functional. Aerospace, you say?

2minis: I would agree, the spoilers on the MINI (and most cars for that matter) are totally non-functional.

I actually wanted to remove the Cooper S spoiler and go without one, but the Cooper S spoiler is attached with threaded studs, so I didn't want to have to patch two holes in the hatch. Thus, the Aero Spoiler, which IMO lines up a little better with the roof line.
