Interior/Exterior Comparison of MINI armrests
Bought the Ebay Arm rest
I am a little bummed, after I received the arm rest today. I didn't know I would have to drill into the console. I thought it would bolt to the front seats, like the Euro armrest. Do you think double sided tape will be strong enough to hold this armrest in place?
i highly doubt any tape will hold it...one good lean and youll have to completely retape it.
Get pics of it if you put it on, or heck even if you dont... i do not see where the thing would sit. I assumed between the ebrake and cupholder, but there is only like 3 inches there

I'm not sure how you could not have known about how the armrest was attached, here is a direct quote from my post:
Someone asked:
>> The Ebay one....It literally screws INTO the plastic of the console!?.. <<
I replied:
> Yes, it does. In four different places. All of them are out of sight unless you get down on your hands and knees and crawl about the cabin....<
Nonetheless, if it bothers you so much, simply send it back to the seller. He's a nice guy, I'm sure he'll refund your money. But, IMHO, this is a total non-issue. You cannot see the screws unless you push down on the seat sides and then look VERY closely while using a flashlight.
It took me all of about 1 minute to get over the extreme trauma I suffered from making the wee little holes. I'm sure you will, too... Hell, you may even be able to make a claim against your health insurance to help soften the blow - I think the clinical term for this is **** (Post-Installation Stress Syndrome)...

RLW, did you remove the rear cup holder when installing your armrest? If you did how did you take it off? I am asking because I did not buy the armrest from the vendor on Ebay, but it is the exact same armrest he sells. The instructions I have are kind of crappy.

Hey Kimbo, you're a-ok in my book, thanks for not taking offense to my somewhat curmudgeonly reply to your query. The cupholder plays no part in the installation, that is a different armrest that uses that method.
The one have requires screwing 4 holes into the console. They are quite unobtrusive and provided a sturdy mount. he screws would be better if they were just 1/4" longer and I wrote this ti the vendor. He replied that he would see what he could do. Ands even if you had to remove the armrest, it would be a simple matter to patch the holes with some putty or caulk. They're not very large holes.
I am satisfied with the look and functioning of the armrest and I recomend. Plus, it gives you an additional hidey hole for stashing glasses, wallets, adult smoking porducts, etc....It also matched my leatherette interior *perfectly*.

As for not taking offense, no worries. I work in client servicing in the financial services industry. I've heard a lot worse and have pretty thick skin.
Kimbo, since it appears you're going to keep it, go ahead and install the little bugger - I think you'll be glad you did...Mine is holding up quite well after 3 months' usage. And it does provide a much-needed rest for my right arm. It's reasonably sturdy, installs easily, and the cost is quite reasonable in comparison to the competition...
I know some of you guys wanted to see pics of the EBAY armrest. I had some 3M Super Strength Molding Type lying around, so I decided to give it a shot. On the first attempt, I only used 1 layer, and when I put some pressure, the armrest did not stick to the console. I applied another layer, and the same thing happened (but only after I opened the armrest cover). Finally, I applied a third layer, and it's sticking. In terms of longevity of the tape doing it's job, that's something to be seen. If it doesn't hold, then I will just use the applied screws.
This is a pic of the screws that came with the armrest.
Update: I am going to have to drill. The tape will not hold, especially if you use the E-Brake like I do.

i haven't purchased the mini yet but is the stock armrest that bad? I was considering getting the comfort system just to get the armrest along with the BONUS of the smart phone prep which I doubt i'll use all that much..
I do like the ebay arm rest in that it allows for things to be stored inside as compared to the stock one...

I ordered mine a few weeks ago from the E-bay site and it showed up five days later, and I live in Florida. I made two mods to the arm rest though. I removed a crescent shaped section of the black plastic base at the back where it meets the rear cup holder so that I could slide it back another 5/8 of an inch or so, and I went down to Lowes and bought some black plastic screw covers with captive covers. The ones that came with the arm rest don't always want to stay on. I paid $89.00 plus $19.00 shipping and I am very happy with mine ( and all the extra money I get to keep in my wallet )
