Chrome Line interior--DIY?

OK so I am kicking myself that I didn't get the chrome line interior in my Clubbie.

I got a quote from my MA that it would be about $300 for parts, and $600+ for labor

Do those trim rings just pop off, or is there more involved with it? Anyone know?

Thanks!

From my understanding, the trim rings come attached to the cover pieces. They are not stand-alone trim rings.

I did it, it was a new option in '05 and my MA didn't know how to order it. I ordered it after the fact and had no problem doing it myself, don't have anyone do it for you.

Just my 2 cents.

Good Luck

I am planning on doing the chrome line retrofit, and emailed Morristown Mini about buying it from them. They said 125 bucks for the speedo, air vents, and cup holder rings. Another 125 for all the pieces on the doors. Just thought this might help, as this is a little bit better price than almost $400!!

I did it on my '04 MCS. All was easy except for the speedo.

On the R53 it is MUCH easier to change to the chrome line interior than on the R56. I ordered the chrome line retrofit kit last week (270 for all the pieces, shipped), and I am still waiting for it to arrive! SO EXCITED!!!!!

Did you order a new tach? The retrofit doesn't include it.

Unfortunately no. A new tach would cost around 600 bucks !!
The only other part that doesnt come with the retrofit is the chrome ring around the shift lever. However, I can buy that for 40 bucks, with a new shift boot.

------------UDATED!!!-------------
My chrome line interior came today!!!

Good thing I FINALLY got over my cold, or I couldnt have done the install today.

I LOVE IT!! JUST THE LOOK I WANTED!!! The install took a couple of hours, but was trouble free for the most part. The tough part was removing the speaker covers. The bottom ones were glued, so I had to pry off every edge. Anyway, heres some Awful iPhone pics I took right after I finished.

If anyone has any questions about doing this on your Mini please ask!!

These are just pics of the speedo, but ill get pics of the rest tomorrow...

Hey Adam, I had it saved on my computer. I've uploaded it to my webspace for you

http://home.cogeco.ca/~djdnz/Chrome%...20How%20To.pdf

Let us know how it goes. Did you end up getting a new tach?

I may at some point decide to pull off all my chrome line bits for painting. If I do, I would be willing to trade someone for the standard grey parts. I read throught that PDF, very helpful. does anyone know how to get the tach trim off?

PM me if interested.

If anyone has done the retrofit, I am looking for your old pieces (I want to do matching piano black instead of chrome). It would help pay for your chrome bits.

outstanding

I didn`t feel quite up to springing for the chrome kit and thought that matching the piano black of the lower speaker bezels and the piano black accents would flow well together.

I also wanted to work with a spare set in case it came out badly.

Send me an email and shoot me a price for the trouble. I will post pictures if it doesn`t come out all sideways.

Michael

Sorry to post in a old thread, but the link does not work anymore.

Would anyone happen to have the .pdf on their computer and can send it to me?

Ive contacted both people in this thread who said that they had it but got no response.

Thanks!

Kirk.
