Interior/Exterior Rubber Mats
Rubber Mats
Hello,
I have a new (2007) Mini.
On my first ride (DC to Baltimore) the carpet floor mats moved around so much under my feet
that I promptly went to the dealer when I arrived in Baltimore and purchased the rubber mats. These mats come with a "pattern" that indicates where you must insert the screws to mount the velcro which acts as an anchor to hold down the rubber mats.
I'm not inclined to put holes in the carpet cover. Has anyone actually installed the velcro holds as directed? Do they work well? Is it worth puncturing the carpet cover?
Thanks

I like them alot too, except they need to be kept clean. They show dirt extremely well.

They are easily cleaned, however. I just vacuum and then give them a squirt with 303 protectant. Wipe with a rag and use what's absorbed on the door seal as you finish up. If they are REALLY dirty, then remove and hose down, then 303.
Ah ha, 303, never thought to use it on the mats. Cool tip, thanks.
I got my rubber mats that came with the velcro holders. on my MC there were two little black "plugs" that i just pulled out of the carpet and there were already the holes to screw the velcro pieces into. The problem i have now is...with my boots or if my shoes are wet my heel slides around on the mat. im thinking of putting some skate board grip tape on the spots where my heel rests on the mat.

For my '07 MCS I bought some self adhesive 2" wide velcro and cut 2-pieces of the hooked material and glued them back-to-back to make a "puck" with the hooks on both sides. I use 2-of these "pucks" per mat. It works great. My mats have barely moved in over a year.
My rubber mats slipped like hell in my 2007 MCS. So I had to use a screwdriver to bust some holes in the carpet in order to put the anchors in. It was quite painful stabbing holes in my carpet, but at least the mats don't slip anymore.
My SA poked holes in my carpet for me, but I'm glad she did. Now the passenger side slips and slides all over.
Anyone who is unwilling to use the "anchors" - please, send them my way! I'll gladly reimburse you shipping and some.
