Interior/Exterior Factory Rear Fog light install kit.
Blacknblue,
Great looking set-up from your website. Gotta get me da rear foggies. Q: Does the ECU upgrade effect anything other than the rear fogs? I have an old 31 version of the software, pre-stumble, yo-yo, etc. and I wouldn't want to add the toggles if it gave me the stumble.

The dealer charged $44 for the reprogramming. We requested a full v36 upgrade, but they said something about the computers being reprogrammed and we'd have to come back - but they could and did do the rear fog update. We cautioned that we wanted our DRLs to remain activated as well as the FMH lights, but they screwed up and disabled the DRLs. Now when we go back next week for the v36 update, we'll have them fix the DRL issue too.
My wife was told the cost to do it all, install the RF kit/toggle panel and reprogram was $169, so the $44 looks good (except it took all of about 3 minutes of time and 27 minutes of waiting :=(
>>nice, i should be getting the toggle panel in this week, and was wondering if you could tell me your dealer experience when you take it in to get reprogrammed. I'm wondering if i can just pop by and get them to do it real quick, as i don't think it takes but a minute. also let us know what they charged.. i'm hoping it shouldn't be much at all, if anything.

Hello Bound 4NW-I note your profile pictures show clear taillights. I have been informed by my dealer rear fog lights could not be made operable with the clear taillight option. How did you do it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
As for the lights, I also have the rear brake light mod. However I also like the thought of the car being more visible all the time in poor weather, not just when I step on the brakes. So I may do it. It depends on how the lights actually work. The rear fogs on Jaguars and Land Rovers work on both the driver and passenger side, however supposedly on Volvo's only 1 lamp on one side of the car works, not both. If I can't get both than I don't want them, I may see if I can just get the switch panel installed by itself then.

BMW-USA's reasoning (and official letter to dealers) on the Non-Install on a clear rear is based on their desire to keep the Clear Rears legal by DOT standards. The bulb output from just the lower, customary brakelight on the clear rears is insufficient to meet standards, so the wiring harness that dealers charge for (but rarely install) accomplishes the same thing as the jumper mod across terminals 1 & 4 = Both the rear fogs light whenever you hit the brakes.
When you had your clear rears installed (either by dealer or self-installed) we assume you kept the regular lights. Reinstall them, put in the all-switch panel in the dash (15 minute job), and go to the dealer to get the software update to include Rear Fogs. Then go home, change out the lights to Clear again and do the Diode Mod so that the Rear Fogs work when you need them, but otherwise they function as the supplemental brakelights that meet DOT standards.
How that helps. Stephen & Kathy
