Interior/Exterior Paining the fender flares
Paining the fender flares
I have been looking all around and just cant seem to find anyone or anyplace that can tell me how to use the existing fenders or where to buy new one ready for paint so i can paint the flares the same color as the body. Someone please help me.
You can use your original flares but be advised - painting the lower trim is a lot of work and you need to be prepared to spend money at a good body shop if you want to be pleased with the results (assuming that you aren't great with body work yourself).
There's a lot of sanding required to get the texture off.
There's a lot of chemical washing that needs to be done to get the mold release residue off.
You'll need an adhesion promoting agent so that the paint will actually stick, as well as a flex additive.
MANY coats are required to get a finish as smooth as the metal panels on your car - the plastic sucks up the paint like a sponge.
Expect to spend anywhere from 500-1000 bucks to get the lower trim painted depending on the quality of the work/shop.
I think I read that Way Motorworks sells them pre-painted. Might be worth looking into.
