thanks for the feedback. The reflectors were not included in the factory package, and I would not cut into my bumper to install them anyway.....third red brake lite also does not count in Ca. going to try reflector tape on the bottom of the rear window first. The police need to sign off on my fix it ticket, so I'll let you know if it works out
From the California Vehicle Code:
When more than one reflector is required, at least one shall
be mounted at the left side and one at the right side, respectively,
at the same level. Required reflectors shall be mounted not lower
than 15 inches nor higher than 60 inches
I had the OEM clears on our 03, and recently changed them to red with white centers (instead of amber centers). I was tired of the look for awhile and finally changed them.
Never had any reflectors, and there was never an issue with any tickets, but I also use the running lights (at least), all the time.
just an FYI in case anyone cares - if someone rear-ends you and you have clear tail lights...you can be found at fault ("I didn't know he was stopping - he didn't have brake lights!" etc. etc). A friend of mine owns a body shop and deals with adjustors day in and day out and he's seen it happen a couple of times.
The brake lights still work on the clears....as do the running lights and turn signals. The only thing missing is the reflectors.
I understand this but a red bulb in a clear housing lights up more pink than red (unless it's an LED cluster). While I personally think it's ridiculous and way too many people file dumb lawsuits, I've seen it happen before, and the party that prevailed was not the guy with the clear lights who got rear ended...
I've just spent a half hour Googling and the only thing I can find is Stealth bulbs that are turn signals. Everything I see is amber. Any idea exactly where the red bulbs come from?
