Well, work slowed down for a couple of days, so I finally got the splitter attached to the chin, all installed. Everything went smooth except the folks in England managed to cross thread one of the 6X100 bolts that attach the lower chin to the splash shield, so after getting a couple of new ones, it was full steam ahead. I like the looks without the stand-offs, but that's just me, many of the other DIY splitters look good as well.

I went to Eplastics site, and see they offer various thickness of ABS, but could not find a sheet at 60", so would have to go with 72".

And for those whom have a white MINI, or want contrast to match mirrors and roof ~ they offer the ABS plastic sheets in white as well

They can also pre-cut sheets into 12"x5' strips and ship cheaper that way.


What thickness do you recommend for this application emsjr ? 1/8 or 1/4 inch ?

Because of the five "wedges" I made which I glued to the splitter, then carefully drilled and screwed into the OEM "chin", I used the 1/8" thickness. I wanted it to look as stock as possible. It is well supported and I have had the MINI over 100 mph with no issues what-so-ever. If you are not going to do the wedges and the bolting to the five existing holes, I would go with the thicker 1/4" piece. There is a total of 10 stainless bolts and fender washers (through the wedges) and the stock mounting holes keeping it solid on mine. It's a bit tedious getting the wedge shape perfect so the ABS thin glue will work, but I'm that ****, many wouldn't be.

The thicker splitter with the external supports would be easier, but not the look I wanted. I also used two way tape to adhere 5 pieces of the ABS to the bottom as "rub" blocks, which I have not hit yet, (Mini is not lowered.)
