Does anyone know what % of Tint, and what type, best matches the black pillars on the car... in other words, which tint looks the most seamless. Some pics I've seen have very dark tint, so the pillar stands out as actually being lighter in shade. I'm basically looking for the perfect blend.

Thanks

According to what I learned today while at the tint shop...the standard percentages are 50%, 35%, 20% and 5%. Legally in Hawaii, we can get 35%, but I think a good match for the pillars would be 20% whereas 5% should match perfectly. Many people consider 5% "limo tint" or "black out."

Your car would look sweet with 5%!

Basically, what you can do is ask the tint shop to show you with scrap tint pieces what it would look like up against the pillars. Just have them wet down the glass and stick them on (temporarily)...then you can see for yourself which percentage will match the pillars perfectly.

Good luck with your tint. FYI - I got 35% on all windows, with 50% (nearly clear) on the front glass. I'm also getting my taillights and rear brake light (top of boot) tinted with 35%...for a smoother look.

Aloha from Hawaii!

The darkest tint would match best, but find out what's legal in your state. I went with 20% on the rears and 35% on the doors in charcoal color and it looks great on my Pepper White/Black Cooper. By altering the precentages I attempted to make it appear legal so as not to overly attract attention from the law. In my state 20% is legal on the rears but only 70% on the doors. My theroy is no one will stop you for only illegal tints, but if stopped for another violation and the officer notices the tint he'll write you up for them as well. I've had mine for almost a year now and now stops or problems, but a friend of mine picked up his MINI last month and the first thing he did was tint the windows, but only went 50% on the sides because he was concerned about being legal, two weeks later he got stopped because the tempory plate he had taped in the rear window had fallen off, and guess what...the cop also wrote him up for illegal tints too !!!....Possibly the shortest tint job on record, he had to have the tinting removed within two weeks or pay a $300. fine !

I'm in Texas. We can have total black out on the back and rear sides but for the front windows the darkest is 35%. It is checked each year as part of your State Inspection. So if you've tinted too dark, you won't pass inspection until you correct it (ouch).

35% in the front windows? Wow, that would be nice to have...I believe no shade is acceptable in CA for fronts. I'm taking a chance with 50% just to preserve my interior leather.
