Jamesgang: I agree with you on the name calling or choice of words, but I stand firm on what I said. Is "@sshole" better than Pig?

Absolutely, as long as you're the @sshole.

Why do you feel like its your right to break the rules and get away with it?

>>No, but I will soon. someone told me to buy a license frame and put red reflective material on it. Do you think thank will work?

Auto parts stores sell license plate bolts that have red reflectors on them, that may be a better/easier idea. Just make sure you get the right bolt thread.

PIG isn't an offensive name to call a COP. It is an acronym, it stands for Pride, Integrity, and Guts. Cop is an acronym for Constable On Patrol. So go ahead and call a Cop a PIG. Not all Cops know this so pick who you call a PIG carefully.

And yes there are many different Police, Sheriff, Fireman, etc that are MINI owners and use this board. Part of a police officers job is to enforce traffic violations and this includes equipment violations. The rapist who is caught, probably has a web board somewhere and tells all his friends that the "PIG" should be out catching real criminals like speeders, or rear window tinting banditos.

Just my thoughts on the matter,

Colin

Cop is not an acronym, its an abbreviated version of the nickname copper, given to the officers in the NYPD when it was first formed because their badges were made of copper.

>>Clear Tail Lamps are made US/DOT compliant... don't sweat it.
Nope. The MINI clear tail light kit is made up of several parts. Three to be exact.
One is the three lights that are all clear.
Two is the special wiring install kit that corrects for voltage so the rear lights can be red and not orange-red-pink.
Three is the red reflector kit that is to be installed onto the rear bumper in two areas one on each side so that the car can be seen from the rear when parked so that another motorist doesn't run into it. The clear lights will reflect but only white color and not red as required by law.
In order to be legal in my state you need at least parts one and three.
When you place the clear lights next to a MINI with the standard lights you can see how orange pink the rear lights truely are.

That is a good one I had never heard before........Must be something the NYPD thought up. The history of the Constable dates back to 1066 AD. After the Normans invaded England in 1066 they adopted the Saxon system of courts and law enforcement. As part of this system each person was required to pledge allegiance to the Normans before the "Court of the Tourn", this was done as a form of social control. After about a 100 years after the invasion the repression eased and some feudal lords were permitted to have their own courts operating under a "Court Leet". One offical operating under the Court Leet was the "Comes Stable" meaning "master of the house". Comes Stable is where constable comes from.

The Constable then evolved and was responsible for organizing men to assist in raising the hue and cry, a sort of search party or people to assist in dealing with criminal activities. The position of constable evolved over the years and went through many reforms. The origin for COP is generally accepted that it is from a slang term derived from early england where constables were seen as naer do wells and ruffians. The people liked them even less than our modern day ticket writers and they called them COPERS or COPS because they were constables on partol, some historians believe that COP was derived from a slang verb to cop, or to capture or take because constables capture criminals. Some others believe it was because of the copper buttons than the constable wore on his overcoat, still others believe it was because the London police used to sign a log book before they went out on their duty and signed C.O.P. standing for constable on patrol. The London Police, the latest or most recent reference was founded in 1829 under Sir Robert Peel. It appears that the NYPD wasn't established until 1845, 16 years after the London Police, and the NYPD police model was based on the London Police model. If you feel that the term cop or coper came from NYPD then that is fine with me. They are a fine Department with a long and colorful histroy, if they want to take credit for the term COP, so be it, many others have tried to explain the origin of the term and claim it theirs.

^ Thanks Colin! Let it never be said that I didn't learn something every day on MCO. I'd never heard the derivation of constable and the roots of "cop" being from England. I too had always thought it had to do with the metal in their badges. I also appreciate learning where "hue and cry" (one of my favorite expressions) comes from. Neat!

Now, what can you do with "Porky"?

HAHAHAHAHAH

I love history lessons!

IN YOUR FACE with your NYPD COPPER BADGE THEORY, PIGS!

Now where did that come from?

Bring on more history! And the clear tailights are really not an issue in SoCal, seeing that one quarter of all the newer cars have been fitted with clear lamps, aftermarket... and 1/4 = HONDA/ACURA

Sounds to me like the morons are the ones
who write the laws and the police just enforce them.
Who are the real idiots and why do we continue to
vote them in?

TheJamesGang: Oh! I see where this is going. Standing up for your cohorts huh?
Noone including myself is above the law, having said that, I'm sure Dealers wouldn't sell illegal aftermarket parts. (by law) What is required on the Mini is on my Mini.
"Officer Ham" stated some biased oppinions that were not called for and he knew it. As you know when you talk back to an "OFFICER" he will hit you with the book if he can. He knew he was wrong, I knew he was wrong hence NO TICKET!!
He was just being nosey as I said. He was trying to get me to make a mistake, and couldn't. Using tact, I told this embarrasment to the uniform to can the BS and stop hassling me. ops: Oh! Yes I am an @sshole to those that call for it, and don't mind saying so.

>>PS. Someday, that underpaid, overworked cop/sheriff deputy may risk her/his life to protect yours.

I have nothing personal against "Officers" in general. Just that one! He was Biased!!
As far as the statement above. I'm in Civil Service myself and I work to keep his life free/safe everyday, and have for the past 22yrs. I'm just as overworked and underpaid as he is. I may have to save his life as well.

Funny you should say that, I live in SoCal, that's why I couldn't believe this guy.
I think the lights were just his excuse.

I'm having them mount the red reflectors on the grill work under the MCS bumper when they install the white lights. Dealer is cool with it. They have to go on the car to make it "legal." You can probably do without in most areas, but the first stupid MF that rear-ends you at night is sure to bring this up. not worth the hassle.

Just got pulled over for white tail lights and no red reflectors. Of course the chippy then discovered that I had no front plate. After the ticket was written he found my tinted front windows but didn't write me for that. After looking at the cal veh code sec 24607 (f) I'm tempted to stop at the CHP office and see what they say about area reflectorizing material?
