SILL PLATE QUESTION???????????

Greetings Comrades!

My daughter just bought a 2005 Mini Cooper and asked me to detail for her. I noticed when I got to the door jams to polish and wax them, that the sill plates had, (has), what appears to be a plastic film over them??? Is this supposed to be removed??? Did the previous owner perhaps fail to remove the protective film? It's beginning to peel off on the drivers side edge, and I'm tempted to just pull it off? But I want to be sure it is indeed a protective film. Can someone please help on this one. I bought a brand new Cooper 'S' in 2004, but I never noticed the film. Thanks! Yes, that's all it is. Kind of like when you get a new device with a LCD screen on it and it's got that little sheet of plastic over it. Same thing. It's okay to pull it off, unless of course you don't mind the look. Then it'll protect the sill and you'll just have a bluish tint sill.
