Interior/Exterior Are the Multivex Mirrors worth it
i didn't cancel my order with multivex because i didn't have the mini yet. i thought about cancelling, but didn't because they were so responsive/apologetic. they called me on two different occasions (without me calling or asking them to call). at least i don't have to think "should i or shouldn't i cancel the order" anymore! btw, i suspect multivex is up and running by now.....if not, should be soon as their last call (late last week) told me i'd have them in 2 weeks.

i have no explanation....but i'll keep you all posted as i seem to have been one of the first to run into the backordered status. if it's any consolation, you're getting your ride before me!

It would seem I am in the minority from what is written here about the Multivex mirrors, but I purchased them and did not like them at all. I had already tried all the conventional spot mirrors and did not find anything comfortable in that category. I was psyched to try the Multivex mirrors and maybe it was a visceral reaction, as many say you must "get use to them", but I like to know I am comfortable using a new product right out of the gate when I am spending so much money. So, I returned them and then tried the Maxi View mirrors. Those are a bit weird in design, but for me the coverage was amazing and they are easy for anyone else who might drive your Mini to get accustomed to immediately and any adjustment for another driver is a cinch. In any case, I am probably in the minority there too. I have had extra sets that I tried selling in the marketplace here (I received one set inadvertently and had bought another set for my wife's SUV, but found out that she was more comfortable with a conventional pair); one sold immediately, but the other sat and sat (in a thread that was ultimately closed down, due to some tit-for-tat with a few NAMers who took exception to me trying to sell them - why it was their business to get involved with my attempted second sale is anybody's guess). In any case, now you know NOT everyone loved the Multivex option.
You're definitely not alone - other folks have NOT liked the Multivexes - but I think you ARE in the minority.
Nothing wrong with that. ALL MINI owners are in the minority, after all...

I installed them on my cabrio and love them. Like other cars with blind spots, the difference is tremendous.
As far as getting used to them is concerned, I never found it to be an issue. If I can only see the car in my side mirrors, I know I have something to concern myself with. That to me is infinitely better than the unavoidable blind spots on both sides with the stock set up. Plus, the field of view is so large with the multivex mirrors, I can adjust the mirrors so that nothing behind me, two lanes in either direction can go undetected.

I ordered one for the passenger side over the weekend. But, after I ordered, I realized that I never specified which side of the car the mirror was for. So, I went back to their site and noticed in their model numbers one has a "L" and the other an "R" in the string of numbers. The one on my confirmation email has the "R" ... I'm assuming that means "right" ... Yes?????
where did you order from, I just got an email from Mini Mania saying my order is cancelled :(
I ordered mine about a week ago directly from the company ...http://www.multivexmirror.net/ ... they charged my credit card already (even the shipping) but said the mirror is backordered and I'll need to wait 4 to 6 weeks.

Any word? Still backordered? I'm planning to order, but will wait until it seems like inventory is flowing again.
I've had mine for about 8 months now. I forget they are there.
When mounting, be SURE you have it where you want it... the adhesive is strong and on a foam block that pushes the mirror out a little to adjust for the curve of the mirror itself. You may have more accurate results popping the glass off first and then mounting so the glass isn't recessed inside the assembly.
I really love mine... gives me much more situational awareness, and it only took a day or two to adjust to distances from the distortion. Definitely eliminated my blind spot.

still waiting on these from Mini Mania, they emailed me saying they cancelled my order, but I'm still getting messages saying they expect in in 3-4 weeks...
From the maker, they said the furnace they use to melt the glass for these was still down (as of about a week ago) so HOPEFULLY we'll all get them eventually.

Having a greater area of visibility from the mirror is definitely cool, but there are no unavoidable blind spots on a car. Certainly not with the MINI, which has relatively large side mirrors.
Adjust the mirrors properly, and the blind spots can be eliminated.
Most people just feel uncomfortable at first with properly adjusted mirrors, where the side of the car is not within the field of vision... but once acclimated to it, it's actually much more comforting knowing you've eliminated your blind spot.

Plaz, I appreciate your trying to offer assistance and advice to this thread. But your signature indicates you drive a tin top and your statement reveals that you have never tried to back up in a top up Cabrio, otherswise you never would have made it. If you've been reading all the posts in this and the numerous other threads on this issue, you should have some appreciation that us Cabrio drivers have a problem beyond the simple cure of adjusting mirrors properly. To brashly come out and state that there are no unavoidable blind spots on a car if your mirrors are properly adjusted is rather insulting to those of us who own one.
If you don't believe me, go test drive one. But instead of driving it forward, back it around the lot a for a few laps and be sure to keep the top up. Oh, and don't forget to adjust your mirrors properly....your going to need all the help you can get.

MiniDaMoocher - Your request to "drive it around backwards for a few laps ... but don't forget to adjust the mirror" made me laugh out loud.
By the way, it's been more than a month since I ordered mine directly from Multivex and still no mirror!!

Mooch's post WAS pretty funny...
The really awesome thing was, the first time I EVER drove a MINI cabrio with the top up was after delivery after I got mine home... the only test drive I ever did, I did with the top down... never even occurred to me to CARE what the top-up visibility was like... duh... and that was after driving a convertible for the previous 8 years...

Love it!
Got my RH mirror a short while ago and finally got around to mounting it yesterday. I already love it. Just follow the directions enclosed as they tell you how to use it correctly (look only at the left side. Use peripheral vision to see the rest). It really works!
