I have the OEM Aspherical mirror on my drivers side: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...88&hg=51&fg=10

Like wemct, I had trouble learning to judge distance with Multivex on the drivers side, and I switched it to the OEM aspherical. It is similar to the standard convex passenger side mirror, but the outside third of the mirror is a section with greater curvature. It is easier to judge distance than the Multivex, but it is still convex across the entire width and you have to be conscious of the "objects are closer than they appear" effect. I've never really had a problem dealing with blind spots on the drivers side, but I like the mirror because less head turning is required to check for cars. On the passenger side I would still prefer the Multivex for its wider view (especally important for the cabrio). On the passenger side, Multivex is not as much of a change learning to judge distance because we are already used to convex mirrors on that side.

I bought my OEM aspherical mirror through MikeytheMini in the UK (newministuff.com) by special request when I was ordering other stuff. Officially it is not DOT approved but MotoringFile reported that some US dealers are willing to order it.

Still heated?

Is the mulitvex mirror when installed still heated from the stock mirror or would I lose that functionality?

Does it's installation cause any issues with the powerfold mirror's motion?

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice, I just placed an order for the Multivex passenger side only. If I have problems with the driver side, I might go for the OEM option.

On my current cars, I set my mirrors up so that when a car moves from my rear-view mirror, it's picked up in the side-view mirror and when it is almost out of view in the side-view mirror, I can see it in my periphery.

I'm guessing this isn't possible with the cabrio because of the c-pillar? My MCSc should be at the dealer in about 3 or 4 weeks and I want to have as much rearward visibility as possible.

You can run a bead of silicone (I like black) around the edge of upper 3/4 of the multivex, to seal it to the OEM mirror underneath. This seals in the heat and it works fine.

I don't have powerfolds, but I can't imagine how it would make a difference - nothing protrudes and the mirror isn't heavy...

Yeah, I set my other mirrors the same way. And you're correct, with the MINI convertible you pretty much have the equivalent of a "porthole" in the back, so that trick doesn't work very well... you need to be able to see much of the space behind you in the side mirrors, because the rearview has such a constrained field of view.

Blimey,

Thanks for the confirmation. It's going to be an adjustment driving the MINI, but one that I'm aware of and happy to overcome. And hopefully I'll have the top down most of the time anyway.

Cheers!

That is exactly the recommendation from Multivex. Here is how it looks on my car with black caulk:

That is correct for the right side mirror. I don't know where the $80 came from, maybe for both mirrors including shipping.

I notice however that Moss Mini sells them for less. If you click on the instructions, you can see that they are sourced from Multivex.

I got them at Christmas and I love them. I cannot believe I went one whole year without them. This is the FIRST mod you need to take care of. The thing is the Multivex will boost your confidence in knowing who or what is around you so you can make those lane changes feeling better about it and not wrenching you neck out looking over the passenger side. I see SO much more. By the way... MossMINI.com has started to sell them and they are cheaper than prices listed above directly from vendor website. (and no, I don't work for Moss Motors, I just buy a lot of stuff from them - I have 2 MINIs.)

stromyfalco,

Did you order from MossMini? Any mention of a backorder? I received an email from Multivex saying there was a 4-6 week backorder. If I can cancel with them and switch to MossMini, I'd save money and get them sooner if they have them in stock.

Thanks

Drivers side is considered left, correct? (i know, i know...i always get switched when I'm working on the car and looking at it from the front...)

side note: I placed an order for the multivex thru MiniMania on Jan 6th, and am still waiting for the mirrors. :/

I ordered them from the Moss Mini website on Sunday morning, got an email confirming my order on Monday morning, and shipping tracking information on Monday evening. No backorder from them.

I must say, I'm not impressed with my purchase from Multivex directly. I sent multiple emails with no response and when I call, all I get is an answering machine. Doesn't instill confidence in dealing with them.

I think I'll just order from MossMini and then keep trying to cancel order with Multivex. If I can't cancel, I guess I'll be selling the other one on NAM for a loss in 6 weeks.

Just my luck...I finally got in touch with Multivex to cancel my order and placed my order with MossMini, only to get an email from MossMini saying they don't have any in stock.

Oh well, c'est la vie!

i didn't cancel my order with multivex because i didn't have the mini yet. i thought about cancelling, but didn't because they were so responsive/apologetic. they called me on two different occasions (without me calling or asking them to call). at least i don't have to think "should i or shouldn't i cancel the order" anymore! btw, i suspect multivex is up and running by now.....if not, should be soon as their last call (late last week) told me i'd have them in 2 weeks.
