>>ahh so i should pop to USA to get some new wheels then! he he ship em back to uk
cheaper than buying a new set!
How about I'll trade you the cost of your airfare for the wheels and tires? Might save you some money. he he

haha yea USA is SOOOOOOOOOO cheap. i oreder all my mini stuff from USA mostly cause you cannot get any of it hre but what u can get is a few £ more expensive than the $ price(+ shipping) and i get it in 2 days not 4-5 ! rock on USA!
>>No locking bolts currently on my car. But the stuff (wheels and tires) I just ordered from tirerack comes with one for each wheel! Thanks Alex@tirerack!
Dang!! My wheels and tires didn't come with any wheel locks and I ordered from Tire Rack, too. I tried getting some at Pepboys, but they can't even order the size I need. I think an email to Alex is in order.
Back to my caliper paint question.....I've done a little poking around online and have found some engine enamel in a large selection of colors that is rated to 600 degrees. The caliper paint sold by Tire Rack is rated to 950 degrees. Do the brakes really get that hot?

Alex is cool! I'm not sure if it was a wheel/tire package that comes with the locks, or if he was in a good mood. Good luck!

I really don't have any answer for you here. However, I do know they get dang hot!
RandyBMC might know the answer to that Q! I'll do a little on-line research later tonight after dinner for you.

>>However, I think I am going to go yellow.
Something to think about. Yellow will look dirty very quickly with all the brake dust our cars make. The upkeep on yellow calipers will be difficult.
Here's some pics of my calipers which I recently painted blue with G2 brake caliper paint. The blue is a very close match with the blue that H-Sport uses on their springs and sway bars.

Here's a link for some temperatures in the braking system. Considering that this page is about racing, the temperatures are sure to be higher than what we'd get running around town. Brake disc temperature paint
As far as getting the car on all four jacks took me about an hour to figure out how to do without damaging the car. First using a standard jacking point lifted one side of the car up high enough to place a stand on the other point. Lowered jack, then placed a small scrap piece of 2x4 wood on the jack (so as to not damage the plastic and to spread the weight of the car) and jacked just to the side of a standard jack point and lifted the car to insert the 2nd jack stand. Repeat for other side. As I said, it took me nearly an hour to come up with it. Had to steal a scrap piece of wood from my woodworking neighbor!
*edit*  BTW, I used a $19 2ton floor jack I bought at Schucks Auto Supply. I did not use the MINI jack.  *edit*

>>Real nice job and looks great. one question how did you get your MINI up on all four jackstands can you tell me what the best way and which jacking point you used
>>thanks
There's a point right next to the rubber jack points that you can use, which will make it possible to slip the jack stands under the rubber points. It's somewhat hard to describe without pictures. One of Randy's how-to threads has a pic... I think it was the supercharger pulley install how-to.
Here's another pic with my other car (red calipers). I used G2 caliper paint on both cars.

Just reviewed the line items on my order. The wheel locks were not throw in as a package, rather something that was charged for. I'm not unhappy with this, as the wheellocks should serve a purpose.

Thanks for the info, d
From what I read, the Bill Hirsch engine enamel would be able to withstand even the hottest of brake temps. I want a color to compliment the SG, but geez, they carry about 20 shades of green. I wish they had a color chart or something.

>>I started around 9AM got it lifted onto four jack stands about an hour later
I plan to do the caliper paint myself... if I can only decide which colour.
I am curious what your process for getting the car up onto the four jackstands was? That's the part that freaks me out more than anyhting, as stupid as that sounds. I'll pull an engine, and I'm squeemish about these damned plastic jack points. Go figgure.
Seriously, I'd love to hear your process.

Using a cheap 2 ton floor jack that I bought at a auto parts store for like 20.00 I jack up one of the four corners high enough to put a jack stand in other one on that side. Lower the floor jack down, then place a spare 2x4 piece of wood on top of the metal jack, I jack up the car right beside the MINI's jack square high enough to put the second stand in. Repeat for other side.

I painted my calipers with One Shot sign-painters paint. It's been on for over a year and looks fine. You can see my car and the calipers on Member MINIs last page (313), today. Ron.
I did the painting with a brush...no masking.

I had to mask off because I'm a bad painter even with that paint brush I used.
