"Controltac" Graphic installation help needed ??
I am about to buy a roof Graphic from A/C - American Flag... I am having trouble finding someone in the Modesto, CA area to install this.... Mike says it is a Controltac install - Anyone put one of these on?? How much rocket science is involved??? I would like to try it my self - however at $190 - I would be a little pissed if I screwed it up...

1. clean the roof with dawn.
2. mix a table spoonful of dawn and a gallon of water
3. spray the mixture on the rooftop generously.
4. pill the backing of the vinyl.
5. put the vinyl on the roof.
6. adjust the vinyl as needed. It should move because of the soapy water.
7. when it is centered, use a rubber blade to squeeze the fluid out. the vinyl will stick to the roof.
8. peel the paper. if the vinyl comes off put it back on and repeat #7.

Probably uses a hinge method. Half of the backing is removed and the decal is started from the center where the "hinge", or backing was removed. Still uses a squeegee to press the bubbles, but you are pushing as you go. Do some googling or someone else may have a more detailed write-up of this method.
Good luck!

Center Hinge Method
The "center hinge method" of graphics installation is a method that guarantees proper placement of any large, hard to handle graphic part. Simply follow the step-by-step directions and your graphic installations will go smoother. This method can be done as a dry installation, but combining the "wet application method" with the "center hinge method" will also improve the quality of your installations.
Using masking tape, tape graphic into desired position. Apply a center "hinge" of masking tape vertically through the center of the graphic. Use at least a 1-inch wide swath of masking tape, applying multiple lengths of overlapping tape if necessary. Extend length of “hinge” 2 or more inches above and below graphic.
Remove the positioned tape from the right side of the hinge. Peel backing paper away from this portion of the graphic. Cut the backing paper near the hinge.
Hold the right edge of the graphic up so that it does not come into contact with the vehicle. Using a squeegee, rub the graphic into place. Start at the center hinge and work towards the edge using overlapping strokes. Remove the center hinge and apply the remaining half of graphic in the same manner.
Remove masking paper by pulling back slowly from right to left. Pull the masking back at a sharp angle, keeping it almost parallel with the graphic. Re-squeegee the entire graphic to insure good adhesion.
Good luck!

I watched a pro install my full roof graphic.
I've installed my own bonnet and boot stripes, on multiple MINIs, but I would NOT try a roof install nor recommend it to anyone who is not a pro. Even if you have no sunroof, some cutting is going to be required.
And yes, I got my graphic from Mike and it is a dry install material.

ControlTAC is awesome. I installed vinyl at a sign shop last year and it is much easier to work with than regular vinyl. It has ridges in it so it doesn't wrinkle nearly as easily. Put it on dry and when you screw up a little yank it off the affected area. It's pretty forgiving. Use masking tape to place it initially and use the half and half method. You should be fine. If you do get a bubble you can track it out a long ways without wrinkles.
