How do you disassemble the E-brake handle?

Those of you who have replaced your ebrake handle with carbon fiber or JCW, can you tell me how to take it apart? I'd like to try turning wooden pieces to match my shift *****.

Thanks,

Replacing ebrake handle

I replaced mine, however, it was on a R53 (shouldn't be much different).
1. Pull off the cap near the button
2. Slide off the handle collar by pushing down on the internal tabs on the sides that hold it in place (I think there are 2; one on each side)
3. Use a screwdriver to release the leatherrette cover around the center plastic brake consule. There should be about 6 tabs that snap it in place.
4. Invert the leatherrette cover inside-out over the handle collar and cut the ziptie that holds it in place.
5. Repeat the above backwards when installing the new handle.
Shouldn't take more than 15min.
Good luck.

Thanks, but looks like the R56 is a little different. Once you pull off the front cap, no tabs to push down. Instead, there is a tab that seemed like it wouldn't budge, but was just very deep. It had to be pried way up with a tiny screwdriver.

Now to design the mechanism to hold a hardwood handle.

This probably won't help since you already said the R56 has different tabs than the previous. But what the heck.
