Interior/Exterior OEM Exhaust tip upgrades
It turns out the reason that it was so hard was that the screws were already stripped :( No idea why, but that explains it. So...I am going to go to a place here locally tomorrow that does custom exhaust work. I'm going to have them weld on some custom tips.
I'll post pics and let you know how it turns out.

Well, in speaking with someone in parts at Morristown today, someone who supposedly knows, it turns out that your understanding is correct.
Each tip is $59.95 and there is a 20% Internet discount off of that price, if ordered off their website (but see below). Please be careful of 2 things. First, these exhaust tips are NOT actually listed under the JCW accessories or even the exterior styling sub-sets on the website. You have to call them, get the parts number, and then fax in the order to get the 20% off (treated as if you were able to make it a website order).
Second, apparently these will NOT install like the OEM or sport tips with just an allen screw; I was told they are not supposed to fit the stock exhaust at all.
How they actually go one I am not certain, but I think I will take a close look at them the next time I am at the dealer to see if there is any way to hook them up to the OEM exhaust, although I was led to believe that it CANNOT be done.
They DO go on with an allen screw, because I helped install a pair a couple of weeks ago.
I have NOT tried to install them on a stock exhaust - we were putting them back on a JCW exhaust. My understanding is that they don't "just fit" due to the different curve near the end of the OEM exhaust. HOWEVER - the large round sport tips went on and off the JCW exhaust AND a stock exhaust with no problem... so I'm GUESSING that the diameter, etc. is all OK and you just may have to cut/grind the top "hidden" part of the JCW tips a bit to get them to work with the stock exhaust... but it's a GUESS...

The dealer told me yesterday that the pricing for the JCW tips is $100 EACH. That's at least their pricing. I'm just getting some custom tips welded later this week. I got a muffler shop to help me get the beer cans off even with the stripped screws, but hopefully it will accomplish what I want better.
I'd LOVE to see what you come up with - I've been looking for some appropriate "slash" cut tips ever since I installed those JCW tips.. I really want something with that general look...

Well, I know what Morristown Mini told me yesterday ($59.95 per tip less 20%, if ordered as an Internet order, even if done by fax - since the part is NOT listed on the website), but I didn't place the order.
I was going to go with some of the slash style tips as well, but they have some Magnaflow tips that fill out the bumper opening PERFECTLY. They're small ovals...not like the Corvette tips, but not exactly round either. They're only charging me $100 including the tips and install, and they definitely know what they're doing. I can't wait for Friday! I get my OutMotoring order, my custom stripes, and the exhaust! It's like Christmas.
That's a really good deal. I would jump all over that. They look way better than the stock upgrades. Has anyone done just the JCW tips yet?
I didn't jump because I was told the JCW was NOT made to fit the OEM stock exhaust, but I did not get a real good explanation over the phone of why. So, the next time I am at the dealer, I'll get my hands on a pair for comparison and try to determine what has to be done to make them fit. I'm sure there must be a way (where there is a will) to get them on; it just comes down to how much trouble/time/money you want to go through to make them work.

I think it's these....

But I don't know for sure. They fit perfect when held up to the car though. A very good temporary solution until I am ready to buy a full exhaust system. I'll post pics once it's all done

Are these the stainless steel? Are they double wall? Do you know the dimensions or part number?

I'm wondering a bit too...
I'm going to get the work done today (hopefully), so we'll see how it turns out. Even though the double wall ones are twice as much, it's probably worth it, right?

How'd it go and what did you get? Pics?
I wound up going with different ones because the oval tips were single wall. I got some that were resonated, which slightly changed the pitch but didn't make it any louder. I like the sound overall. They look kind of like the OEM tips, but slightly larger, don't stick out as far, and look a little bit more substantial. They did a great job on the install. I would say that anyone considering getting the OEM tips should reconsider. I spent exactly $100, including install, and got better looking tips than the $99 OEM ones...plus I didn't have to do any install work (even though it is minimal), didn't have to paint the insides black, and they don't stick out as far.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the decision! I'll post pics as soon as I can
