iPod Spec Dock..

anyone have it? It retails for $299 and I have the opportunity to get it at cost. Just wondering if anyone has any experience? I searched but didn't find anything.

Here is the description from the website.

"Navigate through playlists, albums and songs with track up/down, fast-forward/reverse, scan, random and repeat functions using the factory radio and steering wheel controls. Does not lock out the iPod's controls or display, so the iPod can be used to select music as well. Charges iPod while docked and also offers an additional auxiliary input for other sources. Text information from iPod will display on the factory radio. Requires disconnecting external CD changer if equipped. Fits in OEM front passenger cupholder location. "

looks nice but it does take up one of the cup holders..not sure if I like it.
If you look at the other altenatives for a lot less money, you still have 2x cup holders.

I don't know...

Understandable...I don't use the cupholders because I can't seem to fit any drinks in their anyways. Since I am getting the parts at cost, it brings it down to about what the factory kit costs ($150 I think). Also, with this, you can still use the controls on the iPod when it is plugged in. I think the factory unit takes away the functionality of the iPod's controls when it is plugged in.

Was that a typo? $300 for an iPod DOCK??

I feel more and more fortunate that I went with the "vastly inferior" iRiver now. Better functionality, same audio chips and a fraction the cost. Sheesh...

What I did was buy the BMW M-Link (I think it was) from enfigcarstereo.com for about $75. It's a cable that connects directly to the CD Changer wires in the boot. It charges your iPod while it's connected, you can scroll through your iPod to look for songs, and has a few other nifty features. As a dock, I just cut some velcro tape and put one piece on the back of the iPod, and the other on the dash. A nice removable dock for pennies!
