Interior/Exterior painting
U miss da point ...
You miss my point
low end - buy two rattle cans and shoot it......
high end - find the best paint shop in your town and have them do it .... I'd probably charge $1500 but I don't know what I'm doing so others might take it to $2500. (I'd wet sand and then paint in a down draft booth with good name brand paint and top with a mid grade clear)
Ask around - you need a decent paint shop.....

Let's put it another way ....
Let me try again...
You can find someone who will do it for what ever you want to pay....
Want a base line? Find your nearest MAACO and ask them how much....
Or find a couple of local paint shops .... ask to see some of their work ... and look around the shop....is it clean????
Better yet, find a car show and ask a few people who've hotrods who they recommend....
big variable is the quality of the paint / clear. The cost of these materials varies widely. If you don't get a good color match you will know it. (one does not buy 'factory paint', one goes to a paint store with the color code and they mix the paint....wanna guess how many shades of black there are? A gallon of auto paint can cost anywhere from $30 to several hundred)
After that the issue is prep work .... masking and sanding and then cleaning b4 the spray
A good painter should be willing to show examples and gar'ty his work for a year against peel)
btw - you can buy black mirror covers I think....

you can buy black mirror caps. and maaco would be a good baseline. if you are doing the mirror caps and roof, and you are not looking to match astro black then it doesnt matter if you match factory paint
My 3 cents....
My 3 cents but ...
I think two shades of black would not look good - therefore you need a good color match
Note that if you go to a place to find color codes you will find that MINI roof black is a different black than any body black....
But to each their own....

^ I totally agree if his car is black. What I was meaning to get at was that if his car is not black then it is not necessary (IMO) to color match everyone else's roof color. i just reread the OP and realized his car is black. sooooo ummm pretend my face fell on the keyboard and stupidity streamed out.

sorry to rub it in
pearlesent and metalic paints are more exspensive and take greater skill to apply aswell.....which astro black is I believe.
I think Capt_bj is correct in saying that a decent job on the roof would run about $1500. he is also right in that materials are a huge part of that cost. The rest of the cost comes in with the labor.......
I have several uncles who are auto painters......whole cars that are done well and correct run anywhere from around $7000 to $15000. they all have similar sayings that say that the prep work is what makes or breaks a paint job, and labor aint cheap!
the moral to this story......$700- $800 will paint your roof, but you will be having to re-paint it in a couple of years after the sun destroys the inferior materials.

They have the black out full roof here:

I think it's only for the R53 though. I'm pretty sure you could also get black mirror caps.
