Kuda Mounting instructions & pictures

Many thanks to Unixgal for all the pictures and instructions. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend ........... kind of reticent to go into it, but, hey, if others can do it, I should be able to as well. Wish me luck.

Great instructions. Kuda should use your directions!

I installed mine last night in about 45 minutes.

My only issue is that while everything feels and looks tight, I now have a squeaking noise. Nothing I press seems to stop it, the panels, vents or speedo. I was wondering whether the metal tabs are rubbing against anything, especially the lower one. I will probably take it apart again and see if I can solve this.

Anyone else have this issue?

Awesome instructions!

I was able to breeze through an install in about 30 min.

Maybe this was mentioned earlier, but you can pop the tach off the top of the steering column by removing two (larger than the T20 everything else needed) torx screws. This makes reapplication of the trim piece behind the steering wheel easier. The little slot on the trim piece that the button connector needs to slide into is a very tight fit, so having the extra room was helpful to me.

OOPS! MY BAD! It was the holster that the NAV clicks into... a little piece of paper was the fix

kobebrain,

I just installed one just like yours yesterday.

You do NOT need to remove the glove box. The Kuda mount that you are using has one tab with a screw hole and two tabs that slide into place.

For the main tab that has the screw hole, you pop that big plastic side piece off of your center console area. This is basically, the left kick panel on the passenger side. I carefully used a screwdriver to seperate it, then pull out and the clips will let loose. Be careful not to scratch/mar the plastic. Once that big piece is popped out a bit, you open the glove box and slide the kuda mount into place.

The big tab with the hole slides behind the panel that you just loosened. Carefully, put the screw in and it will secure the mount, then pop the panel back into place. The top smaller tab slides between the CD player and the plastic dash and the lower tab slides between the temp control **** and the plastic dash. I didnt like how the lower tab put pressure on the temp control button, so I just bent that back under the mount and it seems fine to me.

I hope that helps a bit. Sorry...no pictures.

Thanks unixga, got everything done in about 45 minutes and looks fantastic! There was also no way I could have done the install with only the instructions from Kuda!

unixgal thank you very much for the HOW TO.

I installed my Kuda mount for my Nuvi in a about 20 minutes. Wasn't hard at all actually. If you just looj close when trying to put the speedo ring on it's pretty obvious where to push and work the tabs back under. I spent more time being **** about routing the power wire under the dash. LOL

Unixgal - just want to add my thanks. I'm not as fast as the others here, but am very happy with the results. Your instructions were right on the money and I honestly don't think I would have attempted it without them. Thanks again!

But it won't leave a mark if you uninstall it later. There is no drilling or anything on your car, just the mount.

No, it doesn't come out (easily) but you can take your GPS off and stow it/take it with you. If you wanted to go that far you could take off whatever mounting adapter you had on their. I could just leave the silly Garmin ball thingy on it, and only someone who knew what it was would have a clue what was in the car.

First off what you for posting this thread was great. If I haden't decided to take the whole dash apart to see where the feet grow as well I would have gottin this done in about a half hour. I took more appart so I could hide the plug to my treo part that I also got from Kuda and my Aux jack for my I pod. So it took me about 3 hours.

I guess making gauge faces for the this car is out of the question

At least now I know what is invovled in taking the dash apart. And I wouldn't wish it appon my worst enemy. (not that I have any)

Great thread. Thanks again for the DYI

Does anyone have any concerns about breakins or theft with the Kuda mount? I was just wondering because of the ball or gps cradle that would still be mounted there. Is it easy to spot from the outside of the car? I don't have my mini yet, but this looks pretty awesome!

I'm debating a kuda install vs the portable Garmin "beanbag" mount for my new MCS and I have a question. For those who have completed this install...from the photos it appears that the line of sight to the GPS unit from the driver's seat might be obstructed a bit by the steering wheel. Does anyone have a problem with this?

I think it's in the perfect spot. I suppose if you were only 4' tall you might have a problem but you probably couldn't see out the front window anyway.

I'm thinking about ordering this kuda mount and would like to use it for both my cell phone and gps. I was considering purchasing this horizontal extension plate. Do you think it will work?

http://www.proclipusa.com/core/frame...th=225&height=

If not I was thinking of this for the gps and the lower kuda mount (or proclip mount) near the glove compartment otherwise:

any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Tank .. I've installed this successfully and I don't find it obstructed by the steering wheel; it's much more accessible than behind the wheel (which is where MINI installs the "OEM" version).

I'm quite happy with mine. My only complaint is that it doesn't have as free-range of motion as before; it's hard to explain, but there's a specific positioning that it just won't go to... based on the flat antenna, etc.
Nothing thats a show stopper though.

Thanks for the data point. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm 6'3 and will already be sitting in the "back seat" as it is... I just ordered a Nuvi 750 so I'll check out the positioning at the dealer before pulling the trigger on the kuda mount. Looking forward to some motoring later this summer.

Thanks for the great instructions - without them, I would never have gotten this done. As it was, getting the speedo clips at the top back in was a major PITA.

One piece of advice: cover up the dash trim with some electrical tape or some other protection. You will kind of need to work things a few times to get it all back together - good chance of a scratch or abrasion.

cheers, will
