Interior/Exterior Grill Badge Mount
Grill Badge Mount
I purchased a North American Motoring MOTD Cloisonne grill badge. It's really beautiful. My problem is mounting it. It has horizontal mount threads on the back and two very long threaded bolts with a narrow plate. I tried mounting it on the passenger side of the grill but the bolts are too long and the mounting plate is too narrow and will slip through the grill slats. I presently have it mounted in the center of the grill because I can place the plate behind the black center vertical slat bracket. I don't like the center mounting. Does anyone else have the badge and if so, how did you mount yours?
I have last year's badge, and it may be different on the back. Two long bolts were welded to the back. I did not have much trouble that I can remember putting it on, but one of the bolts broke off within a week or so.
I wound up breaking off the other one as well and using the standard MINI grill badge holder. It looks like it is not going to stick, but it has been there for more than a year with no problems. The standard holder goes where it is asked to go, mostly.

thanks, this year it has two threaded nuts welded (or casted) to the back of the badge...it has the same two long bolts. but if you use the long bolts over towards the passenger side, the won't clear the radiator plus, the horizonal bracket is not wided enough to keep it from coming thru the grill slats.
Frank, I just installed mine yesterday. It's a PITA to get behind the grill (unless you know how to remove it, which I apparently don't
) But what I did was cut the threaded rod in half with a hack saw. Now that I've mounted it, I can say that you can actually cut it down to about 1" to 1 1/2". I then set the threaded rod into the badge with some blue threadlock and tightened it down by wrapping some duct tape around the end of the threaded bit and using a set of vice-grips to gently tighten.
I decided I wanted mine set in the bottom right (as you face the car) of the grill. Since that part of the "Grill" doesn't have any holes I just drilled a couple of small ones. BE CAREFUL though, the temperature sensor is on the right side (which I discovered AFTER drilling my holes
) Anyway, I set it there and, after loosing some skin getting it attached/tightened, it looks great
I took pics and will post them tonight

Hey thanks, that's a great idea. I will look into it. In the meantime, I have come up with another alternative on my own. Believe it or not! I think I will work it out one way or another...thanks again
