Interior/Exterior Removing Top dash vent
you can remove it, it requires removal of the dash top part, then you grind down the plastic welds that hold it inplace. You can use an epoxy to re-attach it. I did it when I re-covered my dash.
not totally, just a different molding of the dash, with break away points, it still mounts/bolts in pretty much the same way, from the sides...and the center vent is still mounted in the same fashion.
You know, this is a timely question. A buddy of mine is trying to install a Kuda brand GPS mount on the dash of his 2005 Mini. The mount he was sent is different from the photos of an R53 mount I've seen in NAM threads in that the metal piece that fits under the dash vent has a step in it. Thus, there's no way he can just slip it under the vent as would seem to be the case with the earlier model. I'm waiting for a resolution of this problem before ordering a Kuda mount for my '05 Mini. Any thoughts on this issue would be appreciated!

Just completed the Kuda Mount in my '06 MCSa... Yep, the front flange on the Kuda had a "step", I didn't see how it would fit, so I was going to remove the dash cover to facilitate installation... Then realized that the newer (05-06) passenger airbag deploys UP through the dash cover... That nixed removing the dash cover. SO... With a little prying, the center vent will open enough to insert the "step" tab, and sure enough, it snaps down into place, making a real snug fit... Just be sure you attach the mounting stem first, because once installed, these mounts are a bear to remove!
