How To: Swap Side Markers

In my ongoing quest to de-bling the Mach V MINI, I swapped to Cooper (non-S) side markers. Here's how to do it...

You'll need a good-sized flat-head screwdriver. Not a teeny one. A flashlight helps to see what you're doing.

1. Open the hood.
2. Look inside the fender to see the locking tab on the side marker assembly. It's on the forward side. The locking tab prevents the assembly from sliding forward.
3. Depress the locking tab with the screwdriver. I levered a little against the hood hinge. Be careful! You don't want to bend any bodywork.
4. While still depressing the locking tab, slide the side marker assembly forward. It'll pop free.
5. Undo the wiring or bulb socket from the side marker assembly.
6. (Optional) Replace the amber bulb with the bulb of your choice. We used a clear conventional bulb. Be aware of your local laws!
7. Attach the wiring to the new assembly.
8. Push the assembly into place by pressing in and sliding it back. It'll lock in place.
9. Done!

Dan,

Every time I see your MINI, it is looking better and better. +1 I do like those wheels, still an option for my 2nd set.

Like the de-blinging

I've just ordered the black ones ... after looking at your car. I like the look -- much cleaner -- already enough chrome on the car. BUT.. I was wondering ... how would they look painted body color?? .....

Hmm. Photoshop, anyone?

Some day when I have some extra funds laying around, I'll be doing all the fender trim body color. Perhaps that piece will turn color at the same time.

I dont like the chrome, but I also don't like the look of the non-S Cooper side markers. So what I did was I ordered the vinyl from Aesthetic Creations along with a coverup for the S in black. this essentially blacks out the side marker, but keeps the form that I like.

Yep! thats exactly what the response to your own question would be.

Just adding input for those who might also not like those side markers, but want to black them out.

Thanks for the instructions. My next mod. I like the fact that the amber bulbs have been switched to something lighter. Will improve the looks of my base mini cooper. Anything fancier like vinyl or carbon will not match unless I get new wheels, etc... On second thought...
