Interior/Exterior Boot power outlet?
I've noticed that soem people on this site have pictures of a power outlet ( cigarette lighter power) adapter in the BOOT/Trunk... I just have a piece of round plastic where one would be, i feel a bit jipped this would be a great feature to have. is it some sort of add-on, why was it taken out of the design?, does it come with some sort of package that I am not aware of? How easy would it be to add this feature on? is there already the power wiring back there... THANKS !

This was standard on '02 cars and was taken off all '03 cars. I've heard rumors that it may show up again in 04.

If it shows up again in the '04 model I will be pi$$ed! I wanted that so badly!
Apparently for the '03 they totally removed the wiring for the outlet, so to get one put in is a pretty major event.

Not on an MCS it isn't. The battery is right there, and running a short wire from the socket location and connecting it to the battery can be done with a single crimping tool available at almost any auto parts store. If you crimp on spade clips to connect to the parts available from Classic MINI, you don't need to use a soldering iron or any other tool. Deciding where to connect a hot wire (I used an inline fuse to go directly to the battery terminal) is the hardest part.

I find it hard to believe they (MINI) would rewire the harness. If you pop your hand up the little cubby hole, I bet you’ll find the wires there.
With a 02 MCS I do have the outlet and I’ll bet the 03’s have the wiring, just not hooked up.

You'd lose that bet. I looked, no wires, nothing in the bundle that's not headed somewhere.
MINI killed the outlet to save money. I assume they have the engineering of the wiring harness computerized, and deleting the wire probably made more savings than deleting the outlet.
But it was a dumb move.

I think they traded the boot power outlet for the '03s for the prewired CD changer setup. The '04s don't are not prewired for a CD changer.
I have an '03...would love to have the boot power outlet also!

The 04's have the outlet.... do they still have the pre-wire for the changer options? If not that is giong to make for a lot of extra work. Anyone know what the removable plastic plate is under the dash where the radio is?? under the "switches." I was peaking under there yesterday and I need to remove a bolt to check it out. just wondering.. thanks
