Thanks so much!! I see exactly what you had to do to get the fairing attached. Got one more question: The black strip that is running along the opening in the top of the cross bar (where the extension strips are attaching), did that come with your roof rack? or did you put that in yourself? I don't have that and could probably use it to help with the wind/whistling noise.

Thanks again!

my rack system came with the rubber stripping. i need to purchase more because sometimes I just run the racks without anything on them and I cut the ones that came with the system. I believe you can get the strips by themselves for around 13 bucks or so. I found them on the mini parts site somewhere but forgot exactly where.

I got the roof rack system and installed it yesterday. I used the instruction in the book, but my Torque wrench does not work. I tightened the collar nut on one foot so tight it stripped the bolt. I called Mini and took it to to them to look at. When I met with the Parts Manager, as expected, the wrench worked. UGH!!!! No worries though, Mini did the right thing and replaced the bracket.

For those of you about to install your rack, do not tighten the nut crazy tight.

Any tips for getting it removed? I tried tonight on my 2013 with dealer installed base support system. Maybe I just didn't want to mess anything up. I loosed the bronze nut but could never get the feet free from the car. after a couple tries, I just tightened it back up.

Hi,

First of all thanks for the great posting.

Can you help me with the distance between the two bars. I like to know if it would be possible to fit a BMW box type 350 on the racks. The mountings look the same and the distance of the mountings of the box are adjustable.

Regards,

André

I recently purchased a used set of cross bars and installed them. They certainly are a bit tricky to get on, but they are rock solid once installed. I also could not get the two halves of the feet to be captured in the ridge of the brass nut, so I decided to back the nut off and trap the feet under the nut altogether. I think in theory, it was a good idea as backing the nut off would pull the feet back and out of the slot on the roof....but it just doesn't work very well. I won't complain as this set was cheap and I will only use them once or twice a year.

Also, I scored a locking roof box from woot.com the other day. This is a RhodeGear brand box that apparently is now discontinued since RhodeGear was sold off to Yakima and Bell. Got the box for $145 shipped! Even with this mounted on the roof, little if any wind noise.

Ready for trip to MOTD. Add trailer with motorcycle and my rig is ready to go!

For those of you that have your rack on year round - Do you leave them on when taking your car to the car wash or take them off.

Any issues?

I just traded in my '10 R56 for a '12 Countryman. I had the factory rack on my R56 and took it through the car wash all the time. No issues at all.

BUMP: Fairing questions

Hi Madmaxxed- hope you're still on here and can answer a few questions. I have the Thule fairing mounted on my 2009 clubbie S, on oem bars, and (as you point out) it doesn't clear the moonroof. And actually the windscreen pops up and raises the fairing, causing a ton of noise.

So... I see what you've done EXCEPT for the connection at the bar. How are you bolting the modified mount down?

I've been wondering if THULE didn't have an extender arm that fit between the fairing attachement arm and the mounts that clip onto the OEM bar... so far, I've found nothing.

Thanks in advance!
