So has anyone tried www.shiptohawaii.com? I was reading about it in the business section of this morning's Honolulu Advertiser and also checked out the website. Seems to be a good way to save some money on shipping goods from the mainland to Hawaii. They have a calculator to help you estimate the shipping cost of items - wish I knew the dimensions and weight of shipping tires/wheels so I can figure out if this is really going to be a good deal. Since Tire Rack usually just bundles and wraps the tires, I guess I can weigh and measure the tires to get a rough estimate. Erik808 and I were pricing wheel/tire packages from EdgeRacing and they were quoting over $200 in shipping so this may be a way of cutting shipping costs - you get the mainland shipping rate to the shiptohawaii's Arizona address and then you pay the discounted rate to Hawaii.

 

I sent a set of spark plugs over there to Brad and they went USPS and it was quite cheap. I ordered two sets sent to me in CA and the took his set to the post office.

I think minihune might have posted about this company a few months ago. However, for a set of rims and tires, lets use 17" rims as our example.
Dimensions (2 wheels and tires strapped together) - 25L x 25W x 20H
Weight - 55 lbs

You get a dimesional weight of 65 lbs and a shipping cost of $68.25! Don't forget this is in addition to shipping costs to the West Coast shipping co, and you must pick up your package.

For a comparison, I chose a set of ASA LW5 and AVS ES100 in a 17" fitment from TireRack. Here are the prices for shipping. $75 to LA, and $147 to Hawaii. Your savings will only be $4 and you will have to pickup the wheels and tires yourself!

One thing to keep in mind is that TireRack has VERY low shipping prices because of their volume. If you went somewhere else, the savings would be much greater! If you went to someplace like discount tire, your savings would be @ $100.

 

 

I had 18" ASA JS5s w/ 215/35/18 Yokohama Parada Spec2s on my MCS and they rode much better than the 16s with runflats. Steering response was also much better.
