oh gosh, it gets better and better every day! so...driving home, I turn to my son and ask if the cd we're listening to has a hawaiian nose flute in it. i was laughing because I thought that maybe linkin park was experimenting with different sounds or something! then it occurred to me (while my son was looking at me like a freak) that the sound was coming from my car!!!! i turned off the radio, rolled down my windows and voila...my MINI was whistling (sounded EXACTLY like a Hawaii nose flute)! after driving for about 10 minutes the sound went away. we parked, ate dinner, the when we started my MINI up again, it started to whistle. Again, about 10 minutes later it stopped.

so, i don't know if it's related to me having put back the stock air box and maybe forgetting something or maybe not tightening something up all the way, but I would expect that the sound wouldn't go away after 10 minutes...AND that if a hose was lose, the sound would get louder the faster i went (which isn't the case...it was the same if at a stop light or driving). or maybe it's a belt that is making this noise when cold?

HELP!

hawaii nose flute? ummm, maybe you can actually tack on a few $$$ more to the pricetag, as that is certainly something unique.

i guess practicality will win out then. i must say at the last auto show, the xb and element were both quite impressively roomy when i sat inside. and for camping, perfect, especially if it starts getting scarry outside and you need to camp in the car. although i don't think i can imagine the xb making over to kaena point, let alone past yokohama. but the xb is quite a deal for a practical, roomy, economic styling-mobile. i assume you're looking at all black? cosmos black, if possible?

and truth be told, if i had to choose between my brg mini and my emerald-black p/u, i'd probably choose my p/u. but shhhh, don't tell randy or the other mini of hawaii guys or gals.

btw, back at my h.s. reunion in las vegas last month, while i was waiting around for the guys to figure out which club they were gonnna go to for boyz night out, i saw mini-t and baronius in main street. in fact, i think t even recommended a certain club to me. or was that some other girl i met up there?

well...my car's running like a champ. c'mon, i know you guys want to buy an inexpensive MINI for say, your wife or husband or kid(s)?

$14000 is a steal, to me.

it's completely back to stock. the only thing i got in there is the rubber floor mats.

lemme know!!!!!

(PS - My xB isn't coming in for another 8 weeks...so I really can't sell it until I'm at least close to getting the new car)

my friend in LA had the same darn problem with his power steering, but it got real bad when his trans gave out. i think he had to work with the dealer to get 80% of his money back (his was an 02 and it happened with months after delevery)....he now drives a A4...but he said that he will look into a mini in the future or as a second car.

the XB or "bb" is not that bad. it's an affordable toyota and it can move a lot more "things" then your and mine mini, but i just can't get the image of them as ramen delivery trucks (this was what i saw when i see pics of japan)...=P
