Hello all. I'm the happy new owner of an 09 JCW with a whole bunch of bolt-ons already installed.


I'm 99% sure I just bought BlckJCWGhst's car, though I think there may have been another owner in between.

I only picked it up Friday afternoon, so have not had a chance to contact the MINI dealership.

annnnnnnnd I just got a check engine light already. I suspect the car has an Alta tune and it didn't come with the handheld scanner. I'm a little leery about bringing it in to pull the fault code--don't have a copy of the current maps or any way of getting a copy at the moment.

I understand the Accessport isn't being made any more, but wondering if contacting Alta tomorrow to see if they have information on the car's history would work.

Was thinking of getting one of those handheld scanners for like $100, but maybe finding a used accessport scanner asap might be the way to go.

Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

 

You should be able to pull the code using ANY OBDII scanner and if it is a minor code clear it and see if it comes back.

You only need the more advanced MINI/BMW scanner if you want to read the Manufacturer specific codes.
