Wow. I don't think I've heard this many complaints about one service center. I hope I made a good decision on getting our Mini

A freind of mine takes his BMW there for service and said he used to get great service there when Jenny was with BMW. Now she is with the Mini Service Dept. He told me to call her. Any opinions?

Jen is fabulous! Of course we love to give her a hard time about all the little problems our Minis have.

The Mini is about as reliable as other German makes, which is to say: not very. However it is surprisingly reliable for something assembled in England. Even Acura couldn't manage that with their English-assembled Legend known as the Sterling.

new incident: broken passenger side window motor on my 06...

window will not go up... started today...
Service said motor is frozen and can not even put window up by hand...

MCS is currently at MoH... awaiting 06 motor to come in from mainland...
Expected time of repair: Tuesday.

2 things tick me off....
1. the car is only 7 weeks old and this happens.
2. MoH would not provide me with a rental and might be able to provide me with a loaner tomorrow...

I think you are right...as my car will be staying many overnights... not expected to be ready untill at least tuesday...I park outside and have no covered parking....so I just left it... if they would of got the window up, I'd drive it until the part came it...

As for customer service, seems to be good... my car was in the shop with in the hour of my surprise arrival... sucks they don't have the window motor in stock though...

hmmm,

when my MCS was in for a cold start issue, i had a rental (across the street). and when they worked on my window issue (like yours) over night, they also had a rental again for me. did they change their policy? sounds like body shop now...

damn....that sucks! no rental/loaner!?!?!?!? my car stalled on me twice in a row the other day and I was thinking about taking it in. but maybe I'll just wait to see if my car gets any worse. lord knows 1) my MINI has been in service way too many times already and 2) i can't do without some sort of transportation.

good luck roehrigs!

Well, got it back today and seems to be good now......

Orginally SES code P1688 came up on weds and John changed the recommend MAP and some other sensor... returned to customer on thurs... and I had the same issue twice driving home on thursday...so I gave it back to them on friday morning for round 2....

The tech at Mini of Hawaii, John, replaced the supercharger bypass and reflashed the DME to v44.0 from 43.0 (don't quote me on that). Seems they sent in a PUMA also, since they have another 06 with the same situation and this is my second visit on this issue..

On the other 06, they changed the bypass valve on and came back for round 2 with the same situation....

They wanted to give me a loaner for the 3 day weekend and wait for a response on the PUMA... however, the tech tested it with no issues, then another tech tested it with no issues...and then I test drove it with John in the car... I gave it a good beating that surely would of failed if the issue was still around... it took it and keep on going strong....tried it a couple of times....the issue seems to be gone...

I need to commend Jenny, the SA, and John, the Tech, on their persistance, speed and caring on this issue....

of course, I was kinda perturbed that my new 06 with less than 2400 miles has been in for unexpected service 3 times in the last month, but I kept my cool and was hoping it was just a post-breakin quip...

However, I will be beating on the car some more this weekend and hopefully, this will be the end of this issue.... so my 06 MCS will be 100% for the Jan 06 whale-watching MCOH event.

Hi everyone.
I am new to NAM via my purchase of a used 2003 MCS. Shortly after purchasing the car a clutch squeal started which wasen't there before. I have a belt slipping sound when I release the clutch going into 1st gear. I have been trying to get the dealer to fix a problem. I took a service tech on a test drive and he ws able to hear the same sound. He drove a few other cars in the next few days and told me that it was normal. :-( Has anyone else asked the dealer about this? Has it been fixed? I have read many other aticles on NAM about this issue. Lots of the other people are getting this fixed. The problem started at 15000 miles and has not gone away. Any suggestions?

clutch noise

I dropped off my mini today at the dealer. I talked to the dealer on Saturday again about my problem. They seemed to be a little more involved this time, which made me feel better than I did the previous times. Danny the foreman asked me to drop my car off and leave it there till Thursday. I hope they fix my problem. Wish me luck

Jenny from BMW just called. She said they are going to open up my mini and take a look. She said it should be covered under warranty. I will let you know what happens.

Early model MCS' had some problems with the clutch/linkage /throwout bearing. I know of a few that had their clutch or throwout bearing replaced within the first 1000 miles.

Just beware this entails separating the front subframe from the car.

update

Well I am still waiting to get my car back.:impatient BMW/Mini service department called to tell me that I have a 60% chance that my car won’t be done today, and I might have to wait till Monday. I miss my car. They told me that they are replacing my clutch for free as a one time customer courtesy. I am not sure if they are doing anything else but I hope they fix everything. I guess I might not be able to drive my car to the DIY on sunday.
I am happy that I will get a new clutch on my my car though. I have been worried about it because my warrenty is almost over.

I read some other posts on NAM with people who said their clutches were softer after they were replaced. I hope mine is not too soft.

oh well.
Have a great weekend

Just make sure the bolts to the subframe are torqued down properly. There have been incidents where these bolts were loose.

Also, not sure about the one time customer courtesy clutch change. If it was defective, it should be done under warranty. It has been done several times in the past due to a defective throwout bearing at less than 1000 miles.

Hope all is well with your car and you have fun when you get her back!
