What is a poker run?

Simply put, I will give each participant a card at each of 5 stops. The first card will be given at Zippys when you ante up. Best hand wins! Of course, if you had a horrible hand, you might not want to continue. So.....the best hand wins 50% of the pot, 2nd best gets 30% and the third best gets the remaining 20%!

OK, I will do my back exercises everyday and save up my lunch money so I can join you all.
What time are you planning to be done? Where do you finish?

I plan on going, but my boss told me last week that my schedule was getting played with (again!!!), and I have no further details. I should know by tomorrow if I can make the Poker Run (and the SCCA thingy, too).

Well then, if that is the case I would highly recommend the Poker run. The course is well planned and very fun to drive in a MINI. Last time everyone from MC to MCS owners, from stock to JCW kit equipted did great. Also the stops are very scenic, a great outdoor day.

Things to bring:
Drinks and lunch so you don't have to go wander all around for food in the middle of nowhere (I mean somewhere, where ever that is)
Sunscreen.
A hat for when we stop.
A camera- say cheese
Sunglasses
Family radio with fresh batteries-set to channel 3 (best handled by your co-pilot)
Comfortable clothes, swimsuit and towel if you plan to swim out at Kuuloa park-we'll have about one hour there for lunch break.

Things to do before:
Get your rest.
Drink lots of water (not caffeine or alcohol).
Take out all extra stuff from your MINI that could fly around and become a projectile.

One note: over at Kuuloa ranch that day is an all day event for4x4 offroading and activities sponsored by Nissan of Hawaii. So there might be a little more traffic than usual. Just something to keep in mind as we plan.

Hope to see you all there. Last time we had seven MINIs- lets try for more.

Can we still see your nice MC (with Helix exhaust!) on sunday morning from 9 to 930am in the Zippy's parking lot?
I'd come early to see you if you could spare a little time. Just something to consider.

Study Friday and Saturday. Just do a review on Sunday night AFTER the Poker Run. If you know your stuff, you know it. If you don't, you don't

It's not a urine test is it?

The problem is that fulltime work goes on in ADDITION to classes and tests so that leaves very little left over.
Oh well, we will save you a spot each time and soon your classes will be done and your schedule a bit better.
Meanwhile your MINI is ready to go so that is good. And you get to practice a little. Remember as you make upgrades you might need a little adjustment time to get used to your new MINI. Especially power and handling mods.
Sorry to hear you cannot make it, you'll be missed.

Today on the radio there was a warning on eastern facing shores for high surf warning and dangerous conditions on the shoreline road from Kaneohe to Kuuloa which is the same area we were planning to drive in the Poker run on Sunday so do please check the weather conditions on Sunday for any high surf.

Minihune,

On your what-to-bring list, you mentioned "family radio set to channel three". What is that?

Erik - sorry you can't come! Stoopid classes! Maybe next time, eh?

Angel,

minihune is referring to the FRS radios that lots of peole have. Last time we set them to channel 3 subchannel 3. However, other people did not have the radios w/ subchannels so they could only hear and not reply. Now we will set the radios to channel 3, no subchannel.

aloha folks, Sorry I won't be with you this weekend. car still at MINI awaiting return of ECU from N.J.- been there since Sat but no ECU today. Have fun.

On another topic, received call from Justin at MINI wondering if i still had my Slites? Originally I was thinking of buying rims thru Justin as they would give good price for S Lites. Bought centerlines from Randy & S lites gathered dust in garage. Justin had customer who wanted S lites & didn't want to wait- So i dropped rims/run flats off with him this morning and got check for $600. Thought that was great !

And roads were closed so stay tuned. Neighbor islands got pounded by waves as high as 40 feet. Much higher and that would be monster wave territory and "mini" tsunami size.

Holy cow! I don't want Lucy to get drenched in salt water ... or pounded with rocks, either from the air or the road. :???:

Most likely the roads will be fine and cleaned up. The waves and debris in the photos were the reason for the closure on Friday. Naturally the weather is improving so road crews can do the proper clean up. Since that is the only road on the coast they must clean up any hazzards or restrict access.

I'm planning to go tomorrow and if there is bad stuff out there I am sure we will make a decision to alter the course and make adjustments. There's more than one way to get where we are going.

Just check out the online newspaper or internet for updates. If I get the scoops I may post it here tomorrow at 8am.
Another idea is to check out tonight's news for any forecast for tomorrow and road conditions.

i'm pretty sure it'll be safe for you guys to do the poker run on the windward side. that swell was simply monstrous, but even those kind of swells don't maintain the high energy levels for very long. since those pics and the peak of the swell was supposedly early sat am, by sunday it should be well down. don't get me wrong it'll still be humungo, but not like the pics on tv or paper. in fact, the local surfline is calling for 4-8 ft. hawaiian at sandy's and makapuu, significantly down from the 10-12 ft. bombs that they were reporting earlier.

and yeah, if the roads are at all dangerous, they would not let cars thru. plus the winds are supposed to lighten up quite a bit. in fact, the drive out there should be awesome with great weather, great waves to watch, cool temps...what more could you ask for? of course, maybe more participants would always be good. the only negative thing i could possibly think of tomorrow is there will probably be a lot of traffic, as locals and tourists will probably be checking out the scene out there. and maybe some residual sand on the roads from the overflow.

hope you guys have lots of fun. i think i'll be at the toys for tots.
