Spring Fling '04 and Aloha 500 '04
>>Will I really get to drive my MINI on a full race course during the Aloha 500 and the Spring Fling?
Absolutely. First you can start with the car control clinic- includes emergency braking and maneuvering, slalom and skid pad. Then we may have either short track or long track set up either the end of the first day and/or the full second day.
>>What will I do everyday after that when I do my normal drive to work?
Hopefully you will be more skilled after the course and a little better and doing everything. You can definitely apply what you learn to the road. The basics always apply. Your normal drive will require normal driving.
If an emergency happens, you will be more prepared than before the course.

>>I am definitely interested for both events.

>>If the SPRING FLING is still sponsored by MINI of Hawaii, maybe minikahuna would let me "work" this event
I guess you could stand in line to use Mini 5. At least now it is broken in.
Or you could get one of those JCW kits and add it to a new MCS like a PW/B one and take that to the Spring Fling for
"testing, testing and more testing" ? Did I say testing? Takes a few times to test things just right. Make sure there isn't error in each run.

OK, some of us have signed up for Spring Fling.
Others are busy and cannot make it May 8th. Sorry to hear about that.
Please therefore also mark your calendars this year for the Aloha 500 a two day event on the Friday and Saturday following thanksgiving in Nov. 2004.
We will not allow any rain like last year. We will need a sacrifice to appease the gods. All virgin maidens step forward
Oh well.
If we come prepared for rain then that will ensure dry weather.

>>Spring Fling is the marquee event for MINI of Hawaii and Aloha 500 is the marquee event for BMW of Honolulu. The sponsorship should continue, all I have to do is talk to the Big Dog DS.

>>Yes.
>>Put the skills you have learned to use on the road, but obey all traffic rules and regulations, please!
Hey Beastmaster,
Can you briefly outline how the two day Aloha 500 format might be different than the one day Spring Fling?
Will the size of the participants be much different from about 40?

We haven't done a 2 day school in a couple of years so I'm a little rusty on this. The last 2 dayer ran like this
Day 1
Car Control Clinic for all
- Emergency Braking/Avaoidance drills on the off camber area to the dragstrip lineup
- Slalom exercises on the 1/4 mile drag
- Skidpad exercises on the skid pad
Day 2
Lapping sessions for all broken down into 4 run groups. Lapping sessions were @ 25 minutes each.
We had @ 40 people attending at the last 2 dayer

With Lucy's runflats, the emergency braking session will probably be more like ice-skating.
But it also pains me to think of how much new tires would cost, so right now I'm willing to stick with the Teflon run-flats.
