I normally pay $1 to $2 per pound for shipping usually by 2nd day air as required by the companies that do business over the internet.

Certainly if you can get free shipping to this west coast site and pay only shipping to Hawaii from there it could be an option. If you have to pay for ground shipping first plus the time spent to get to the west coast especially during peak christmas season time and the hassle of getting a problem along the way then it looks less good. What about tracking of the item?

Many companies don't mail by USPS just because there isn't good tracking.

Some companies like tirerack.com have favorable shipping rates that allow them to ship from Indiana in less time and for close or less cost than others will charge. 4 bare tires shipped 2nd day air for about $44+.

 

The shipping rates for tires must be the same regardless of size. My little 165/70 10s cost the same to ship. Tirerack rocks!
