I am considering buying a GP and using it as a daily driver. I would like to ask the GP daily drivers what is the average fuel economy for the car. I know the GP is designed for high performance driving and I do plan to drive it as such, but it is nice to get mid 30s on a long highway trip.

Over 11k of driving without resetting the computer shows that I'm getting 27.1 mpg. I do, however, drive pretty aggressively, so it could be better.

Mine is not a GP but an N18 JCW, and if I "feather" the throttle, I have seen 38-39 mpg (upshifting at 2k rpms). At about 2500 rpms it goes down to say 33-35mpg. Once I started having more fun and upshifting above 3k rpms, my mpgs have dropped as low as 27-28 mpg. lol

I would say that the sticker mpgs are close to average, IMO.

I daily my GP2 but I haven't had it long enough to really see where my mpg will be. Right now with a little over 300 miles I'm seeing low 30s while not on the highway and 28-29 on the highway.

My '11 MCS with the JCW tuning kit got me ~36-38 off the highway and ~30-32 on the highway. That's shifting early and not getting on it of course.

I've driven my GP nearly daily since delivery in March. I don't follow the computer since it is never accurate in measuring my actual fuel mileage. I do it the old fashioned way with a calculator when I fill up the tank. I run 91 octane, drive mostly in sport mode and don't commute on a freeway. My average mileage is always right around 28 mpg.

I am seeing 27-28 when I am doing only in town driving. I have a 3 mi commute to work, and do it 4 times a day. On the highway (interstate) see it in the low 30's when mixed with a little in town driving.

I have over 5,000 miles since April.

Better milage then my 05 MCS, which was getting into the mid 20's in town with 80,000 miles the last couple of years. Not as good as the wife's 2010 MCS on the interstate by a couple of miles per gallon.

I have over 5k miles. The computer shows 23.9 average. The main road I drive on, consists of stop light after stop light... I'm also on my 2nd set Kumhos.

I'm at about 6K of daily driving. Track and autocross driving sucks up fuel at about 8 mpg. My normal mixed driving gives me trip computer averages around 32 mpg. That's 5 mpg better than I was getting with my '05 R53.

By the way. One time I ran the tank way, way too low. Fill up took a smidgen more than 14 gallons.

Another plus for the GP2 as a daily driver. If you remove the red bar, you can carry more than you would expect and certainly more than the other two seat MINIs. I maxed out load capacity with a full sized dishwasher in it's box with only an inch to spare.

With the bar in place, the hatch is a perfect fit for a set of track/autocross tires, a jack and some tools.

I have a little over 15K on mine. 95% highway. I have not reset my computer and it shows 36.1. I usually run 70-75 mph. It is about like my '11 cooper S.

Wow... not sure how you can manage that... mine shows 37.1 with a pretty urban highway mix, always in sport mode, and driven with some passion... 12k... quite a bit better than my 09 jcw

How did you get the MFSW? I'd love to have cruise control to keep my speed from drifting too high over the limit!
Update. After 30K + miles as a daily driver, I still love it. I'm part way in on the MFSW retrofit but have run into a snag getting it programed.

I am glad you posted. I am on the fence about acquiring a GP2 to be my daily driver in Michigan.

I have a JCW R57 that I drive in the summer when it is nice, but a GP for the rest of the time sounds great.

Please talk me in or out of it.

To OP, if you ar worried about gas mileage buy a Prius. Who freaking cares if they spend an extra $4.18 on gas each week. To the last poster. Buy one! I just took delivery of a gp and it rocks! Read all you want (like I did) and you will still have no clue how fun this car is to drive!

You are in Phoenix, and have the benefit of nice roads an no snow. I am in Michigan, and this would be my daily driver all year...

Hence the hesitation. On really bad days I could take the wife's Jeep, but the rest of the time it would be me, and the MINI snowplow

Here you said it is only a summer car so which is it? If you are looking for a year round vehicle I can't help you here. I have never driven in snow!

The R57 is the summer car. The GP will be the rest of the time.

I am jealous of your lack of snow and smooth roads.

I read that wrong, my bad.

For driving rain/snow it would be no different then any other mini assuming you don't drop the coils and ditching the stock Khumos for some a/s's would be a must.

If you don't need a back seat I say go for it!

Other than subjecting a poor GP to salt and snow, I can't see why it would be bad, unless the GP has no stereo (can't remember) that would suck.

The stereo in the GP is pretty bad if you care much about music. And unfortunately, it's unique to the GP (unique wiring, unique outputs from the headunit...).

To me, that's the biggest fail - if they'd put the normal base stereo in it, (even minus rear speakers, but wired for them), it wouldn't have been so bad (and easier to upgrade). Lack of MFSW and cruise is pretty retarded, too. Saving what....12oz maybe?

That said - if you're going to use it in michigan as a 3 season car - you'll probably want to run the coilovers up to max height, and if you plan on having multiple sets of wheels (pure snows + all seasons), wheel fitment can be a challenge clearing the front brakes.

Beyond that - esp at max height on the coilovers - it's like any other lowered 2nd gen mini. Stiffer than the soft sprung stuff 2nd gen marshmallows, but smoother than a '06 r53.

Of course it might depend on your commute - I spend about an 1.5-2hrs a day in mine when I'm commuting, hence the creature comfort upgrades (cruise, mfsw, stereo, and I'm working on a rear seat delete delete because I'm not a fan of the way mini did this one - it's all show and zero utility. and it -is- nice to be able to toss a 3rd body in the back...)

Oh, and there is the little matter of tire wear - if you keep the stock GP front alignment, that's a LOT of front camber. Expect to eat tires (any tires) a lot faster. Also, that camber would probably work against you in slow and ice - certainly it's significantly more prone to hydroplane in the wet down here in florida vs my r53s with the same rubber. Of course, that's adjustable to. :-D
