GP 0808

So ,, who owns GP 0808? I see it is listed on ebay Buy it now at $9000. (Seller does request that you contact him directly, due to some type of "problems" with contacting via Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mini-...04632168QQrdZ1

PS No, I would NOT advise bidding

I just sent them an email, asking why a 30,000 MINI GP is for sale at 9,000.

Somebodys account got Hijacked. That sucks. It looks like a scam to me. Note that the Vin isnt posted, and all the info looks like it has been scanned onto the page. I wrote them to play with them, Always beware of Ebay deals that look to good to be true. They probably are.

Yeah, something is definitely fishy about that auction.

Only a complete naive idiot would accept a mere $9000 for a limited edition GP. Was this car crashed? Was it in a flood? Does it still have an engine?

What gives?

I reported this to Ebay a few hours ago. I see this scam all the time on Ebay. If the price is too low, and they ask you to email them first before bidding, stay away.

Here is the reply I got from the email about the auction

Hello there,
I know that you have many choices on eBay and I appreciate that you contacted me.Although I am registered in the US, but I recently moved in PORTUGAL (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here.
The car is in a perfect cosmetic and engine conditions, and meticulously maintained. No damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, the engine doesn't smoke, runs and sounds awesome, the engine has never been repaired or something like that, never been into accidents and it is as advertised. The car is registered in United States and it has clear title. You will get from me the keys the title and all documents to register the car in US, and also a bill of sale in your name and signed by me.
I bought this car from US but when i tried to register it here in PORTUGAL they said that i can't register it because is a US vehicle and we have to do serious engine modifications in order to comply with the EU emission standards. As I have said before, it is an US model (which complies with the US emission standards) and Europe regulations are different from these ones.I want to sell it in US because the car is still registered there. The price is low because here in PORTUGAL nobody wants to buy it and so instead of keeping it in garage I decided to sell it to someone back in the US.
If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund, upon the return of the item in original condition (return postage at my expense). It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your front door in maximum 2 weeks.
Final price is $ 9,000.00 (this price includes the shipping and insurance).
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be manage by Ebay,in this way both of us will be protected.
So if you really want it please give me an email
Thank you!

Hmm...so because he can't bring it to Portugal, he is going to lose 24k on it (from what he paid at minimum). That must be alot of work to get it to EU emmisions standards . ::Sniff - Sniff::I smell something fishy::Sniff - Sniff::

This is the exact same response that I got.....we told them "well what do ya know, we happen to be going to portugal on vacation this week. So where can we meet you to inspect the vehicle?"

We havent gotten a response yet. Can you say "Nigerian Scam".

That's the first time I've heard that a US spe'd car wouldn't meet any euro standards If they can sell them in Cali, then they can go anywhere! Sure we are all fanantics, but they really think we'd fall for that one

9k including the shipping and ins! So he would clear what, 4K???? Yea sure.

I also noticed he guaranteed delivery in two weeks-so what does he have a cargo plane standing by because if he's shipping by boat you are at the mercy of the captain and the customs agents, and the DOT inspectors, and the.... Maybe he meant 9K euros which is still too low.

Listing has been removed, I guess you all smacked him good!

this car was the sister to my GP at North Scottsdale MINI in Arizona. When I got 1996 I had asked if I could have 0808, but it was already spoken for. I was under the impression it was sold to a race car driver ( who they wouldnt name understandably ).. Portugal does have some good grand prix drivers. Well atleast I can speak for where it origonal came from...

I talked to him a number of times on the phone and through emails. He lives in AZ and was asking 31 for the car. I dont konw what was on ebay but if anyone is interested i can get you his information. I think im going to go for an R53 JCW or possibly an 07'
