Not much publicity on the GP?
Not much publicity on the GP?
Hey everyone,
I've been keeping up with Mini news, just paying attention to whats been going on in the business. One thing though, that I really havent heard much lately is about the GP. I am not gonna lie, before this forum thread, I had never heard of the GP and thought that it was one of the Minis that were only released in England and Europe. Why is this? I would think that BMW and Mini would want to push this car, since its the fastest and the lightest?

I've seen posters at MINI dealerships ...

There's been reviews, including a great one in Autoweek:

There's been lots of website coverage, especially on MotoringFile - and there's my nice site too
Almost all if not all of the 415 USA GPs have been sold already so I guess there was enough publicity!

yeah I think that practically all the cars were sold before they were even built. So there really wasn't any need for publicity. The car reviews in the magazines would do enough and put this version of the mini further up within the standings.
If you look at it the push behind this car was similar to the push behind most companies flagship models. They really sell themselves and very little needs to be done to distinguish them in the market.

With only 400 odd GPs available for North America, and all of them having been essentially pre-sold, there is really no need for MINIUSA to promote the GP via advertisements. The Pebble Beach - Cooper as the honored marque - first delivery - MTTS Rally was more than enough publicity for the GP.
Simply put, why create demand for a product that you can no longer supply.
