Break in proceedures for stored GP

Just picked up a new 06 JCW GP, had 71 miles on it, yes it is Dec 2016 so a 10 year old car with 71 miles. Been stored in climate controlled warehouse since 2006.

I had them change all fluids and put new tires on it to get it home.

Didn't come with owners manual, have one ordered.

Question is, from the manual, what are the rpm/speeds for the break in, and for what time and mph for break in.

Thanks in advance

WOW That is awesome wish I would have found that it's like a super barn find.

I would change the oil and brake fluid. Then drive it like a brand new car for the 1200 miles to break it in as it is a new car.

On second thought I should just tell you it's a terrible idea to drive it and you should sell it to me.

Pictures dammit, pictures! Without pictures, it didn't happen.
Wonder what Wayne Carini would do had he come upon something just like that?
Treat it kindly like it's the only one of it's kind in the world and enjoy the heck out of it. What a find!

New Mini

Yes it was a rare find. Found it on the local mini dealers showroom floor, had just come out of storage, didn't even have it in the system. Owner buys them and holds them to see if they appreciate. This one wasn't, so when he brought it out, went home with me. Sales price, well it still had the sticker on it and he wasn't haggling so he got his money back on it. New car after all..

Let me know if anyone had any break in issues. With all the fluids done and new tires, probably be belts and hoses in a couple of years. Will let you know how it runs when it gets broken in. Up to 105 miles now!

That needs stored in a hermetic container filled with nitrogen. 105 miles, you've nearly worn it out. All I can vocalize is wow. That's a museum piece. Oh, and consider a really good bra for that. You don't want it suffering road rash.

Owner isn't making his fortune on holding cars ten years to sell at sticker, probably just likes to hoard the rare cars.

Wow, that's amazing! If you're in the Denver area (I don't know how far you had to drive to get it home) check out mini 5280 on facebook, or there's also a mini's and coffee group that does get togethers and drives in the springs.

Also if you're interested in getting that thing on the track, which isn't that what they were designed for? check out emmich track days at high plains race way. They do a full day track day for $80, or half days for $50. I've done a few and it's alot of fun, and not too far from anywhere in the front range.

to answer the question

there is no 'break in procedure' in the MINI owner's manual other than

don't over push for the first few hundred miles ... don't stay at the same rpm for too long (avoid cruise control) recognize that the brakes have a break in period

With the age of the car you should replace the tires .... they are dangerous at this time ....

Up to 131 miles

Thanks for all the help. At the clear bra shop now getting a full front, bumper, hood, fenders, partial top stop in front of numbers, and rocker panel wrap. Going with suntek.. had xpel on last vehicle, nice, but some rocks made it through. Will be ready to drive and get it broken in when done. Wanted to save the paint as best I could. Will post some pics. Mileage before going to clear bra shop.

Nice find! IMO cars are meant to be driven. The memories and stories that make cars into legends happen on roads and race tracks in the real world, not locked away in some warehouse or the back of a garage.

In my experience at this point the window to maximize the seating of the piston rings has passed, and now it is what it is. Let it warm up some and then drive it how you see fit. Enjoy it, it's pretty awesome!

@GP0839......howdy!! This is GP1320. Way Motor Works told me about you but it was hard to believe until I saw the pics you posted. You are the MAN! You were indeed at the right place at the right time...with the right amount of money. Many might disagree but I say well bought! What a time capsule you have. I have 105 on mime too.....105,000! Keep us posted regarding your break-in period. Im curious to see what you think when you get to unleash it!!

Hit 500 miles finally

Twisty's in the afternoon, doesn't get better, ok once I get it broken in, more mini's would make it more fun!

Full front end wrap, suntek, only place you can see it is on the roof where it cuts off before the numbers

Emissions testing a new car, ok it is 10 years old with 487 miles on it

Break in is going well, staying under 80 and 3500 rpm. Found a blurb in the manual on that and no full power till 1300 miles, which is really harder than it sounds, it wants to take off after 2000rpm. Kirby did a great job on the clear bra, and it has had its first wash. No problems other than the weather is not cooperating with my schedule, so not much driving. Already had it on one of the twisty's, and it handles like a go cart with a jetpack strapped to it. Nice!

Congrats on your "barn find"! Curious...What tire brand and series did they put on for you? Hopefully not run-flats!

tires

Yep, they got me with the Pirelli cinturato p7's, and yes they are run flats. They were the only 205/40/R18 W rated tires they had on hand at the dealer warehouse for some reason. Try to find 150mph + rated tires at a Mini Dealer seems hard to do. These were about a year old according to their date, best they could do. Anyway, they split them with me since I wasn't driving out of there with those good looking 10 year old tires, which probably had the traction of a dry rubber brick. Will put some nice track/summer tires on it once I get it broken in. If anyone has any recommendation on a good track/summer tire let me know. Probably will never see any rain, so some nice sticky tires, strut tower anti mushroom braces that allow a bit more camber, and a larger rear swaybar and should be good for next/first 10K miles.

First congrats on the win, probably safe to say you wrote the last chapter on new from dealer GP1 deliveries worldwide!

On tires, I was super happy with how the Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec worked with a mostly stock suspension on my GP1 last year. My prior experiences are that putting track oriented tires on a stock suspension results in car feeling like s**t due to increased roll/pitch, but the JCW suspension is up to it. These aren't race winning track tires but were great for learning car at the first couple of A/X's I got in last year and with posted times that surprised me. Possibly not a good tire to explore absolute limits on street with since this type of tire has more sudden break away than more street oriented tires. Anyhow, I mention this tire only because you included "track" in your inquire. I hope you do go down that path as that's where the fun is.

Lastly, you should read any insight from NC Trackrat twice. He provided me with invaluable guidance when I bought mine -thanks again Stan!
