Jack Point Covers

Is it really necessary to have the covers on the jack points? I lost one and was wondering if I should try to buy another one through Mini USA.

The jack point cover serves two purposes: (1) it has a recess into which the tool kit jack fits, and (2) it provides sufficient additional clearance so that when the MINI is taken into service the car-lifts (which are flat surfaces between the wheels) don't contact any other underbody surfaces or fixtures. So yes, most people would consider them necessary, or at least adviseable.

Ok, I'm a female that doesn't know much about these things, but I believe they are just covers that don't really serve a purpose other than keeping it all clean. They are only on the GPs as far as I know (the whole underside of the GP is covered). They must be removed to jack up the Mini. Does that make sense?

Your jack fits into the covers, making lifting the car a safer.

The covers are probably not a big deal, especailly depending on how fast you plan to drive. The intent of the cover is just to complete the flat bottom of the GP. I suspect the minor air flow disturbance from the missing cover will never be noticeable.
That said I would procure a replace to keep the GP intact. The flat bottom panels are one of the unique things of the GP.

Great thanks!
Now comes the challenging part... calling the parts department and explaining what I need. They never seem to know much about the GPs...

where to buy

I need to buy a replacement set for my GP, too. Where's the best place to buy MINI parts? I'm not in any hurry, and I'd rather support one of the MINI parts departments that provide discount and good service.

I have always used Classic MINI in Ohio. They are a vendor here and if you mention you a member of NAM you will recieve a discount.
