Our MINI got hit...

We bought our Mini 2 weeks ago and it's already been assulted. To make matters worse, I watched it happen. I realize it's only a car (a "used" car) that we have owned for two weeks, but I didnt sleep very much at all last night.

The Mini was sitting in our driveway when it happened. We had a contractor over doing some work and he managed to back his trailer into it. It looks like the damage is all to the passenger side door. I guess we will take it by Global Imports in Atlanta to get an estimate today or tommorrow. It was an accident and accidents happen.

I'll post pics this evening.

That sucks! Well, I'm sure it can be repaired. I would get it done at a MINI dealer if you can.

Did the contractor at least offer to cover the costs? If you report it to your insurance company, will your rates go up?

ITLRUN - i had my 1st MCS for about 8 months.
Me an my girlfriend had just bought a house that needed a lot of structural changes. the roof needed to be replaced. extremely heavy ridge tiles were 'cemented on' and i thought that would be the end of it. i parked the car on the driveway one night. high winds took 4 of the ridge tiles off. one went through my car roof, another through the bonnet, one through the passenger door. the 4th missed the car by inches. that was two and a half years ago. to this day when there are quite strong winds, i cant sleep. i'm forever looking out of the window checking the new car is ok. i wouldnt care so much if it was a ford or renault some other crap car.

it's a MINI thing...

New, used or otherwise it's something you invested you hard earned $ on the car. So it hurts anyway you look at it.

Oh yeah, he was almost as sick as we were. I dont have a tag on it yet and he assumed that it was a brand new car. We filed an accident report even though it was on private property. His insurance will cover it.

Sorry to hear about your MINI. Youre a bigger person than me, I would have flipped out if someone hit my car. Im glad to hear you got an accident report, its a good thing to have just in case anything changes. Im sure Global will get your car back to new in no time (thats where I bought mine too). Good luck!

Global does not have a body shop, they will send you to Magnum.

2 MINIs, 3 hits between them, I'm very, very familiar with MINI repairs.

I feel your pain, ITLRUN, I really do! And kudos to your levelheadedness...I think I would have exploded if I were in your shoes. Hopefully, your Mini will be better than new in no time!

I will take the Mini to Magnum tomm at lunch to get an estimate of the damages. I have an uneasy feeling about the other insurance company. They want to write their own estimate and send me a check based on it. We will see how that goes.

The estimate from Magnum was $835.84. I guess it's not that bad, I just wish that it had never been damaged to begin with. I am still waiting on the adjuster to call me from Cotton States so that he can write his estimate and get this thing fixed.

DO NOT CASH THAT CHECK!!!!! His insurance company is required to return your vehicle to a condition that you will accept as repaired. If you cash that check they will take it as your approval of the repairs and you have no recourse after that. Wait until the MINI is repaired to your satisfaction and then cash it. Trust me been there done that got the t-shirt and burned it.

Agreed!!!!

I too have been down this road. Get the MINI repaired where YOU want it repaired, to YOUR satisfaction and approval. The accident was their insured's fault and not yours - don't let them dictate your repair.

Once it's repaired, you're happy, and the check they send covers that cost - THEN cash it.

I'm having the insurance company deal direct with Magnum Collision. However, I'm still waiting on the insurance adjuster to call me back. I'm about to get pissed off because of the wait. I think I have been more than patient up until this point.

EDIT: The adjuster just stoped by and checked the damage. I should have a completed estimate back from him tomm. I'm interested to see how close he is to the estimate I got from Magnum.

I guess you guys can look for the "bruised" EB MCS @ MOTD! lol

Be careful though, every single time I have ever had a vehicle repaired from an accident, more damage has been found and the cost was more than the estimate. My last one was $1400 more. I always let the body shop deal directly with the insurance company and they can fight it out if need be.

I got the estimate back from the insurance company and believe it or not, it was for $300.00 more than the estimate that Magnum had written. Magnum is ready for the car today.

Now I have to decide if we take the car to be repaired before or after MOTD. It seems like we are damned if we do and damned if we dont. Do we take a chance and hope for a fixed car for MOTD or just take a bruised Cooper?
