Has anyone ever done this???

I bought a brand new 06 Cooper with 6 miles on it about 5 weeks ago. I absolutly love the car. Its only got 800 miles on it. Here's the deal....when I bought my Cooper I was trying stay within a strict budget. I only wanted to pay so much a month. It put me out of the market for the "S". Well lo and behold, I just got a VERY hefty raise. Enough so that it more than covers my monthly car payment. I could go get that "S" now if I wanted too.
Has anyone ever gone back so soon and traded up??? What kind of depreciation can I expect and do you think I would be better off waiting a year or so? Right now there is a 06 S with no miles on it sitting there. :impatient

I didn't do it with a MINI but did it with a luxury brand. I lost about $8000, but it was worth it. But I am an impatient guy and I have always considered money a tool as opposed to a prized possession.

To make this a little clearer, I traded a car that cost me $51k and got $43 for it, with 2400 miles on it.

tough descison, I would at least go ask about it and have them run the numbers and see what happens.

Grey Shade, that's good advice. You have nothing to lose and if you can afford it... go for it!

you will take a MAJOR hit. The car depreciated the moment you registered it.

Could probably get more privately for it. See what the dealer would give ya on a trade in. then see what MINI's are selling for with low KM's, may not see any '06 for sale yet.. Even if PVT sale, be prepared to loose 4G, maybe less if you find someone that really wants one and wants to save $$...

I agree with CHOWS4US. My wife and I did this several years ago with a Honda. Part of the problem was with the new one we had... possible lemon. I think that was the only reason we didn't take a bath on the deal. We still lost about $1K overall. We had the first car for about 6 weeks and traded up to a nicer model.

GET IT!

Thanks everyone. I think I will go up there on Saturday and see what they say. Never hurts to ask as they say. I might just be better off waiting for the 08's to trade up to the "S". That way the depreciation wont hurt so bad and I will have paid down my loan a bit. Plus, my husband is less inclinded to take off in my Chili Red MC than he would if I had the Hyper Blue MCS :-) And I mean that in a good way!!!

We traded a '05 MC for a '06 MCS after about 11 months of ownership on the '05, we got a decent trade, not good by any stretch, but decent, you really might want to consider waiting like you said and keep it a couple of years.

Raise or not, save your Money and enjoy your Cooper. You will not be disapointed. 38,000 miles on my 05 and I have no regrets about it.
Cheers

Save Stewie! Such a nice little Cooper. There will always be time to upgrade. Enjoy 'em while you have 'em...Save your money, get some mods...Get another MINI when you can...and still keep Stewie! Two MINIs are better than none

Hi, Stewie! I bought my first MINI, an all-Pure Silver Cooper on August 28, 2002, and when Jet Black was introduced for the 2003 MCS, I ordered one and traded in my Cooper (with 13,800 miles) for her on April 4, 2003. I would have made more selling her myself, but didn't care.

I think you should drive the Cooper for a while then order a 2008 MCS. That is what I would do!
