My mechanics 05 S has 175k on it with the stock clutch, SC. It is just now starting to lose a little compression. But he has run both a 16 & 2% pulleys for 150k of those plus a little after the pulley install he installed a Cosworth porter head. His car is run hard regularly. Yes he has replaced the suspension bushings and pieces but people must remember that a MCS is a high strung car made for spirited driving, contrary to most all Hondas and Toyotas mentioned earlier. I've seen my share of smoking Hondas and Toyotas out there. Sorry but you can't compare a MCS with putt putt car. Let the flaming begin

This 200,000 Mile Headline Was News in 2007 . . .

but, it's kinda misleading now.

This thread had a few postings in January of 2007 -
then was forgotten - and totally inactive till January of 2011.

Four years quickly passed in between - and I've been too busy Motoring
to keep up to date on all the threads where MINI folk talk about their cars.

But, no one's expecting me today, so I'm done talking - and that odometer
will keep track of all the miles I'll enjoy. It's still a long way off, -
but, I suppose 500,000 would be worthy of a new picture - and maybe
a whole new thread.

It's great reading these stories...I'm fretting already about my '06 R50 turning 61,000 miles !! I should get well over 200,000 miles. I'm a fanatical oil changer . I change my oil every 4000 miles, & add Marvel oil as well.

Computer Said, "Change Oil Again?"

Yes, - It keeps doing that
every 18,000 or 19,000 miles.
So, day before yesterday,
it went back to the dealer for
new oil again at 434,000 miles.

While they were at it,
they replaced a license plate bulb -
and the little marker light
in the right front fender.
That one was not quite as easy,
since ice, snow, salt, age etc.
had damaged that lamp socket.
No big deal - they had one in stock.

But, everything else is working perfectly.
So, On We Go.
This car is still a Joy to Own -
and Drive -
Lots!

Harold, you are truly an inspiration. I've only got 101K on my '02 BRG/W R50 and my wife only has 82K on her SG/SG R50, but we (I) are in it for the long haul. I, for one, will never sell my car so one day I will see north of 400k like you. Yes, the later models are much plusher, more powerful and better appointed. But, to the Beverly Hillbillies tune, "R-50 is the life for me". Thanks for blazing the trail.

Val

200k miles

What a great story.

I recently turned 161,211 miles on my 05 R50.

It's a daily commuter that travels 102 round trip miles a day for work.

434,000 / 18,500 OCI's on the average = 24 oil changes.

Compared to someone changing there's every 5,000 miles:
434,000 / 5,000 = 87 oil changes.

That's 63 fewer oil changes saving Harold money - and saving impact on the envirornment - and flipping off OPEC to boot.

And his MINI looks no worse for wear:

My 2002 MINI Got New Oil Today at 641,207 Miles

Gee, - I haven't checked this thread for a long time - but, I've been driving, kicking the tires, and changing the oil 'like the book said' anyway. And before you know it, the odometer and your birthday cake surprise you with numbers you never expected to see.

I'm 92 now, and 'that MINI' is going on 16. I'm still blessed with very good health - and the car is still a joy to drive.

I have to go now, - but, I'll check back soon and see if I can fill in other things you may want to know about 'elderly MINIs'

OVER ONE MILLION KILOMETERS!

Mind = blown.

Do you have plans to have it end up at BMW`s main museum some day? I think they would very well include it...

Sad to report, Harold passed away 3 months after his last post here on May 23, 2018 .

"He was a member of the Milwaukee Minis, participated in a ‘Mini Takes the States’ cross-county event, and was regularly seen behind the wheel of his own mini. Always interested in how things work, his frequent drives and plant tours satisfied his curiosity until tomorrow; when there was always someplace new to see."

A great man and quite a legacy....Motor on Harold, RIP !
