Drive train malfunction p1290 plz assist

Alright guys i have a tough question. I've been getting drivetrain malfunctions on and off. ill drive the car for 3 hours then turn the car off. once it sits for like 5 min then try and turn the car back on the drive train malfunction alert comes on. Then i turn the car off and back on and then its gone. i changed the water pump (because it was leaking) and changed the spark plugs. Today Im driving the car and same thing but then the check engine light came on. I looked all over the top of the engine and looks like on the fuel rail had some oil in it like on top of an injector connector, so i cleaned it and the check engine light came off.

I'm getting a P1290 code
Engine coolant temp sensor, I ordered it but can't find where it is for the life of me. any one know where it is?

turbo wastegate actuator.
That's a bit more expensive so I'm hoping the temp sensor fixes it.

Over all car is running perfect I'm just getting these annoying alerts and id hate to ignore and it get worse

Let me know what you guys think !
thanks guys!

It really helps if you let us know what model, year, engine, etc.
