Are Minis reliable?
Are Minis reliable?
I am looking into getting a countryman s and have seen many differing opinions on minis online. I need a car that will last for around 10 years. I need a concise answer as to whether or not they are reliable. Will a mini cooper countryman get the job done?
Thanks

What year are you looking at? Brand new 2025? Or a used model? Different years will get you different responses.
Also, what do you mean by "reliable"? My 2012 Clubman has never left me stranded. So, I would consider that reliable. I have always been able to get in and go where I needed to go. I have had to replace worn parts, but I perform all my own maintenance, so cost of repairs has been modest.

Also, if you hire your maintenance done, they are less than desirable. Taking it to a Mini dealer is big $$$ for repair/service. Most import repair shops aren't much better.
Like Nik, I do my own maintenance/repairs.

I love my 21 year old, 04 R53 since the day I bought it new (2003), and can't imagine ever parting with it. Reliable?... it has only left me having to flatbed it twice - 1st time ) A failed idler pulley. 2nd time) Broken transmission shift fork.
I too have performed all maintenance, upgrades and mods myself since 2012. Ive kept it exceptionally nice over the years... However; This car has cost me, in parts alone, more than I originally paid (new) for the car and we'll beyond its current bluebook value.
But we're talking a Countryman here. So you may ignore my previous paragraph. As stated above by others - It really all depends on, year, mileage, service records, turbo or non and region.
A little more research on prospects can best help you in making your selection. Seems every iteration has its potential issues.
Good luck.

Consumer Reports
Currently, several recent years are "Top Picks" for reliability.
