I have a ticking noise coming from the intercooler area of my R52 Cooper S. It seems like the ticking is coming from the top section of the intercooler area, or maybe inside it, or just below it. I can't work it out.

The car runs excellent and my code scanner shows no error codes. The car has also been to several garages for work recently and neither garage have mentioned it to me.

I've trawled through loads of forums trying to diagnose the noise and it seems that these cars just have "ticky" engines. I don't think this noise is the same as the timing chain noise? Maybe someone can advise.

When my ear is on top of the intercooler, the noise is loud, however when my ear is either side of the intercooler/engine bay, the noise is very quiet/disappears. I've attached a video of it below.


I'd really appreciate some advice!

 

Its the injectors, they are under the intercooler. Thats what it sounds like. Sounds louder but maybe normal.
