Sitting in my wife's 2009 Clubman (N12) reading fault codes. As I'm sitting there with the engine at idle I hear a very faint, rhythmic "pop" noise from the back seat area. About 1 pop every 2-3 seconds.

When I shut the engine down, the faint "pop" went to a rapid succession of faint "pops" and then stopped.

Is this normal or do I maybe have a something like an in tank fuel filter going into bypass?

Mini dealer lists a fuel filter, but says it's part of the fuel pump housing and they never change them. The car IS 14 years old and has 138,000 kms on it....

 

Might be the tank straps on the fuel tank when the tank expands. Mine does this at start up and shut down when you get hot/cold changes. Its the plastic tank rubbing on the strips.

 

I have bmw 323i misfires few 1-3-4 replaced spark plugs and the ignition coils but didn’t resolve the problem what it could be ?
