Anyone with any experience with Carvana? They seam to be offering more than. VROOM or CARMAX. And i am talking around 3000 more and that is to sell not trade.
Here in Arizona (and likely elsewhere), Carvana seems has become the leading reseller of used cars. I've seen their carrier trucks picking up private party vehicles from residential streets in my small town, including one of my immediate neighbors last year. So then, they're scooping up those plus from the usual wholesale dealer auctions further limiting inventory available to private party shoppers with listing prices seemingly on the high side (even for retail) last time I looked. Not a bad option for sellers looking for a quick no-hassle transaction but not one I'd be inclined to pursue as a buyer.
I sold my first Mini to Carvana at the advice of my Mini Salesperson. Carvana gave me 5,000.00 more for a 2019 S Countryman than the Mini Dealer was going to give me. This was the same dealer I bought the original car from. That extra 5,000 enabled me to buy a 2019 JCW Countryman from that same dealer, which I was NOT going to do if I didn't get the extra 5,000 from Carvana. Drove it up, went inside, someone got the key and went out and started it. By the time I signed the papers (about 4 minutes), I walked out and they were already vacuuming it. Easiest car sale I've ever done.
I had negotiated 5,000 discount from asking price from the dealer on the JCW, added to the Carvana extra 5,000, that was a 10,000 swing. BAM...got the car I really wanted! This was July of the first COVID year. I could probably sell this JCW for what I bought it for...it would be like driving the past 25,000 with no depreciation...don't think that will ever happen again...
Carvana was a joke, they were offering me 25K almost 6K less than other online dealers they go by KBB fair value pricing.
Try SHIFT or Driveway (31.5K), they offered me KBB private party prices. SHIFT also added $300 if I took it to them. Gonna go with SHIFT next week after the 4th.
Bought my 2019 F56 from Carvana. Traded in a Nissan Versa. Their associates wheren't the most helpful but generally the deal went very well. It's hard to beat the prices and the choice of cars.
The KBB is more than I thought it would be but yet not as much and it is private party price if I try to sell it. Carvana is higher than the KBB (max private party)and that's to sell outright no trade and maybe no BS. The KBB was about 2,000 less to trade it in. So if I wanted to easily sell my car that would be going to carvana. But that's why I asked this question what's it like dealing with them. I described my car what I think is honestly. But it makes me wonder how much they'll try to talk me down when they see it. That's what I'm curious about. I don't see how carvana can stay in business offering that much
I had some worries about the Nissan Versa that I was trading in but the person walked up to it, got in, and drove away. I don't think they looked at anything. I have never heard of them arguing over the price once they have quoted you one. The order for my car somehow got lost in the system and it took a day or so to get it straightened out but it wasn't a problem just an irritation. The associates you talk to on the phone are pretty much useless.
Let me just get to the point. Carvana is selling a 2012 r58 JCW for almost 20 and if you would get it delivered and after taxes you know it's an easy 21 or 22,000. An average bank will not give you a used car loan for that car. They may give you some type of collateral loan or some other way but I highly doubt they will give you the full 22,000. But carvana sure as hell will finance you. It is a crazy time for cars. I looked at driveway and shift.com and carvana is a little higher but in a whoopie doo it's like $800. But the point is I'm betting a dealer would offer like 10,000. And I bet most of you wouldn't even pay want to pay $15k a 2012 r58 let alone 20 k. You know frankly it's like a 12 or 13,000 car maybe if it were a normal Market. Just once again it's a very strange time
I would not buy from them right now but I may sell to them. Ricky is crossing the pond so I have to take Lucy down Tuesday for the dealer to see her and give me a final trade value. (Had Ethel in for maint when I ordered Ricky). It is a 3hr round trip to the dealer for me. Lucy is a 2013 JCW Countrymen, manual, only ding is one of my rear parking sensors got poked back inside the rear bumper. (Found it that way when I came out of the store). She has 95,650 for miles. Turbo replaced at 44K and clutch at 45K. Dealer offered $11 K site unseen, KBB good trade is $11K to $13.8K. I would say condition is good. If they try to push it down I will look at option like carvana.
... only ding is one of my rear parking sensors got poked back inside the rear bumper. (Found it that way when I came out of the store).
Nothing to fixing this. Several 8 mm screws to undo on the lower edge of the bumper cover. Put your hand up in there and push the sensor back into place. If it has lost some of it's stickiness that holds it in place, a couple of pieces of tape will hold it there. I just fixed mine last night in about 5 minutes...in case you want to have a car with NO dings when you go to sell....
Purchased our 2015 S Hardtop from Carvana just about a year ago. Most pleasant buying experience, and the limited free warranty paid for the collapsed motor mount replacement. Purchased from the Charlotte NC location .

Carvana has had their dealer license suspended in IL for the 2nd time after violating recent agreement with the state’s attorney general that allowed them to resume selling. They keep issuing out of state temporary registrations on cars sold in IL while they work through tags and title.
