Higher ethanol fuel
Higher ethanol fuel
Mine's a daily driver (yeah I know...) so very concerned about damage, premature wear, reliability issues as I'm sure we all are, even the weekend tracksters.
Not interested in starting a political discussion per the house rules but also not currently buying the "safe for all cars 2001 and later" line, knowing most journalists don't wear an ASE patch, much less design power trains for a living. Interested in the expected effects of E15 (or higher?) and what we can/should do about them. For the time being my location affords the option of limited supplies of "ethanol free petrol" but suspect that may be drying up soon; probably very soon.
Cheers and happy Monday.

ETHANOL is derived from corn. Given the current world situation, there is/will be a shortage of corn as well as fuel. Corn may be needed more for human and animal consumption than as a fuel additive. It may not offer a viable financial benefit. Time will tell. One thing is for certain: Everything will be more expensive.
Fuel mileage erodes with ethanol mix. Ethanol has less energy when it burns, hence lower MPG. More ethanol = lower MPG.
i get 5 MPG improvement when I burn no ethanol fuel. I don’t get by the station we have with it often but I grab it when I can.

Found a site that lists ethanol free (E0) gas by state and city for U.S. and Canada.
Pure Gas
Not the best user interface, kind of clunky but gets the job done. They do have an app but it's rated pretty low due to limited search area; many reviewers simply spooled up the website in their browser.
Gas Buddy doesn't have an ethanol free search filter; would be great if they did of course.

Ethanol is an "oxygenate" when mixed with gas does two good things: boosts Octane rating, and increases completeness of combustion of the gas/ethanol/air mixture. Therefore, despite the lower energy level per unit volume, fuel efficiency is not decreased as much as the lower energy per unit volume would arithmetically suggest.
If the seals/materials in a system are designed to be compatible with ethanol, there should be no problem with using it...if that was the question.
