Turbo "S"
The S never had anything to do with being supercharged. From way back in the 60s when Austin made the faster Cooper they called it a Cooper S. So the tradition of the faster or sporter MINI has been for it to be the S version.
True. S = 'schnell'
Back in 1963 or so: Cooper & Cooper S.
Late 60s and early 70s: Porsche 911 E & 911 S.
Late 1980s and 90s: BMW 318i & 318is.
2016: Golf GTI Clubsport & Clubsport S.
Recent and current Porsche 911 (993 - 992): Carrera & Carrera S, Turbo & Turbo S.
Same with Boxster & Boxster S, Macan & Macan S etc..
Many more. None of the above examples came with a supercharger. So I can't
agree with '"S" being typically recognized as supercharged'.
If at all, Mercedes used to use a 'K' for 'Kompressor', which means Supercharger.
