Mini to announce tomorrow that they will be electric only in 2030. So the long awaited 4th generation models (3rd Gen will run 9 or 10 years right?) should be the last of the internal combustion engine Minis. Which might go over well in Europe, but in the US electric cars are pretty hard to find. The 4th Gen Minis might be the last Minis to be seen in this country for the most part.

The next several years should be exciting times for the World's electric grid.

Wonder how sales of the current electric MINI have been. Range isn't super, but good enough for a city commuter I suppose.

Apparently they are doing pretty good ... MINI expects the SE to make up 8% of US sales in 2021. We got ours in December and it has worked out very well for us. Granted, we don't have to contend with cold weather, but the car is perfect for out use. Seldom do we put more than 30 miles a day on the car, but all indications is that it will pretty easily exceed the 110 mile range. Recently we recorded 95.4 miles and still had 25% charge remaining.

The sales are especially significant given the fact that all of the SEs are "orders only" and the dealers do not stock them. A customer cannot walk into a dealer, test drive the car, buy it and drive one off the lot the same day, and leasing is not an option. With those hurdles in place, the car is still selling pretty well. I suspect sales may even be higher once access is improved.

This article addresses the sales and expectations in the US: https://insideevs.com/news/489837/ei...electric-2021/
