06 Mini Cooper s 127,000 miles manual

06 Mini Cooper S 127,000 manual . Just bought it two weeks ago. Guy said he had put in a new clutch flywheel and throw out bearing. Drove it until last Friday. Seemed to drive and shift fine. Every once in a while when I cranked it you could hear like a metal almost grinding sound. Anyhow on the way home Friday it’s like the clutch went out. Was a burning smell but it will move into gear but it’s like there is no gear there ...you can let out the clutch the rpm won’t drop or anything. I’m new to minis and don’t know. Several things on google said clutch. Some said transmission and others said an air bubble from clutch change. Any ideas? Everything seems to work as it should the car just won’t move.

Air bubble in the clutch line doesn't explain the burning smell and it would effect the ability of the pressure plate to release off of the clutch disc. You say you can push the clutch pedal and move the shift lever easily to all the gears? That means the pressure plate is releasing off the clutch disc.

When you select 1st gear and the car doesn't move, you get a burning smell and no movement of the car? That indicates a problem with clutch disc.

I would pull the transmission and have look at the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel assembly.

First thing to do is check your crank pulley. It has a rubber core that over time separates from the actual pulley (the center spins but the pulley does not). When that happens it causes the burning rubber smell you're mentioning.
