R58 Coupe JCW GP ?

Curious as a Coupe I'm looking at buying, the CarFax says "2012 MINI COOPER COUPE JOHN COOPER WORKS GP KIT". I didn't think there were any

GP was only made 2013, and it was a hardtop not coupe

Yeah, I wasn't aware of any other GPs except the 2006 R53, 2013 R56 and 2021.

The seller didn't do a CarFax and no mention in the ad about the GP Kit, I did the report as I do for all potential purchases and there's nothing different in the pics vs all the other JCW Coupes. I was going to skip it due to the history and a lien against it but now rethinking due to the potential GP kit. The other 3 R58 JCW reports I did do not have anything after JCW.

While we wait for the other post to go live, here's a couple pics (I don't see the JCW written on the air filter cover or valve cover?):

a case of bad semantics I'd guess

technically coupe means: a car with a fixed roof, two doors, and a sloping rear.

so the basic MINI hardtop 2 door qualifies and was often described as such UNTIL MINI introduced a specific model called the Coupe (R-58)

the GP note is just wrong IMO .....

and CARFAX is a huge scam ... don't waste your money

I recently sold a car that had been in TWO accidents and repaired by reputable shops (associated with dealers) and when I went to CARMAX for a sale price appraisal, they ran the CARFAX and it came out CLEAN .... no accidents ..... offered a higher than KBB price and I sold the sucka......

CARFAX only has data that has been VOLUNTARILY reported . . .

Yeah there's nothing GP about that. It's the N14 engine (2007 - 2010, many issues, see the Gen2 FAQs), the wheels aren't GP, it doesn't have the diffuser, etc. A lot of the GP kit can be retrofit to a JCW, like diffuser, underbody panels, etc., but I don't see any of that in the pics.

Run the VIN through the decoder (see the Gen2 FAQs) to get the build configuration.

The vin decoder just says JCW, wonder why the carfax would indicate GP Kit? I feel the same way, nothing different or special looking but if it had some truth, would purchase it.

Yep, my guess is people or local buy here pay here dealerships add that tag to the post to get more clicks as people are looking for it.

R58 :: Coupé Talk (2012+) MINI Coupé (R58) discussion.

Check this thread in the 2nd Gen Mini: Coupe forum. This isn't a factory GP Coupe at all but it's really nice. I had a 2014 JCW Coupe until April.
